Who passed the eye test in Gameweek 31?
We take a look at who passed the eye test Gameweek 31. With a focus on the matches played so far, we highlight some of the standout performances of the current round, whether they returned in Fantasy Premier League or not.
Underlying stats will always be very useful for FPL managers in their chase for success. However, looking at who passed the eye test in Gameweek 31 could be a huge factor when looking at potential FPL assets to bring into our fantasy teams moving forward.
Ollie Watkins
Aston Villa faced tough opposition this week. Newcastle have maintained some of the best defensive stats in the league this season but the hosts managed to dismantle them 3-0 taking all three points. There were plenty of big performances but one in particular caught the eye.
Ollie Watkins (£7.6m) ran riot this week. The striker was a constant threat from the get go, nearly scoring in the first minute. Watkins looked hungry, sharp and caused catastrophic damage to the Newcastle defence. He was too hot to handle in front of goal hitting four shots on target and netting twice. Not just this but he was also really creative, mustering up two key passes leading to shots and one big chance that led to his assist. His total performance was rewarded with a whopping 16 points this week.
Daniel James
Fulham went into Gameweek 31 needing a win to lift their spirits after losing five games on the bounce in all competitions. It was a tough game on paper but they came through victorious in their 3-1 win over a defiant Everton.
The best visual performance came from Daniel James (£5.9m). James was used in advanced role and although risky it paid off. The Welshman wreaked havoc for the Everton backline. James was a huge goal threat, hitting the post but eventually scoring. He was also creative, slipping passes through the defence and producing two key passes leading to shots. James finished the game with a goal and an assist, collecting a massive 12 points.
Eberechi Eze
Crystal Palace have been re-energised by the arrival of their former manager Roy Hodgson. Prior to their Gameweek 32 match the Eagles picked up two wins on the bounce whilst also scoring a cool seven goals. This rejuvenated form continued against strugglers Southampton as the relegation battling side lost 2-0.
Many chose to back Michael Olise (£5.5m) who had a solid game but it was Eberechi Eze (£5.4m) that stole the show. The winger completed most of his dazzling dribbles and wasn’t shy of digging into a tackle winning over half of them. Eze also proved a goal threat scoring early in the second half and adding to that tally with a fantastic long range shot. He ended the game with a colossal 16 points.
Dominic Solanke
Bournemouth have the worst defence in the league this season. Because of this many expected an easy Tottenham win, but that was not the case. Although the Cherries conceded two goals they fought back at the end to win the game 3-2.
The star performance came from Dominic Solanke (£5.5m). The striker was a massive presence up front. Not only did he stretch the opposing backline and score a goal he also became the master creator. Solanke managed two key passes and two big chances with two of them converting into assists. He collected a whopping 15 points for his efforts.
