Which players are due a goal in Gameweek 25?

Last modified date

Picking out the players that look likely to score in an FPL gameweek is a big part of management. Using recent underlying stats from the Fantasy Football Scout, we assess which players are due a goal in Gameweek 25.

Recent FPL goals

Some attackers are in great form over their last four matches:

However, others are shooting and getting in the right places without having either luck or end product. So let’s look at the players who have met the following criteria over their last four league appearances:

  • No more than one goal
  • At least nine shots
  • At least two big chances
  • An expected goals (xG) tally of 1.10
  • An expected goal involvement (xGI) of 1.30

Heading into a unique round that is both a Blank and a Double Gameweek, many due players won’t be participating. Alexis Mac Allister, Bruno Fernandes, Ivan Toney, Callum Wilson, Fabian Schar and Solly March, to be precise.

That reduces the list down to six names, where even Aleksandar Mitrovic, Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Darwin Nunez are injury doubts.

Two of last week’s names did deliver FPL returns. Fernandes assisted twice for Man United, while Nunez scored his first goal since the World Cup before hurting his shoulder. Managers looking to purchase the Uruguayan for this Double Gameweek should wait until after Liverpool face Real Madrid on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, Mitrovic blanked in the four matches before Saturday, which he missed due to a knock. Head coach Marco Silva isn’t yet committing to the Serbian’s availability to face Wolves on Friday.

“I don’t know if he will be able to play the next game or not but it will not be weeks or something like that. Right now, the statement I have from the medical staff is that it’s a minor injury. It was impossible for him to play, I don’t know if it will be for the next one but soon we are going to have him back.”

It’s been a disappointing time for Eddie Nketiah‘s owners. He has played all 90 minutes of every league match since the Gameweek 17 restart but hasn’t scored in the last four, despite accumulating 12 goal attempts and an xG of 1.99. He has two Gameweek 25 outings to rectify this, versus Leicester and Everton.

Elsewhere, Calvert-Lewin has missed the last two games with a hamstring problem, Joao Felix could only muster two penalty area touches in 90 minutes versus Southampton and Rodri could be a Pep Roulette victim against Bournemouth.
