What the Double Gameweek announcement means for the run in?
Yesterday the Premier League announced when nearly all of the postponed fixtures would be played. FPL managers now know exactly what Double Gameweeks 36 and 37 will look like. We assess what the Double Gameweek announcement means for FPL managers and how they should play the run-in.
In yesterday’s article we detailed the Double Gameweek fixtures. Today we take a look at these fixtures in more detail. Who has the best fixtures? Which Double Gameweek players also have good fixtures around the double and who should FPL managers be targeting.
Who has the best fixtures?
Four teams play twice in both Double Gameweek 36 and 37. Everton, Leicester, Aston Villa and Chelsea look like they will be key targets for FPL managers. These four teams will be especially important for those FPL managers not playing a Free Hit chip in these weeks. This is because these players benefit from four games when eight teams only play once.
All four of the teams who play twice in both Double Gameweeks 36 and 37 have attractive looking fixtures. However, Everton’s form has not so far been investable. Leicester, Aston Villa and Chelsea all look highly targetable for FPL managers. Villa however do blank in Gameweek 33 ahead of their two Double Gameweeks.
A further eight teams have one Double Gameweek across the two weeks. These are the players that managers who are planning a Free Hit in Gameweek 36 or 37 should target as they can bring them in just for the Double Gameweek. Of the teams that have one Double Gameweek in either Gameweek 36 or 37 Crystal Palace and Watford look to have the best fixtures on paper. Like Everton however, Watford would need to show improvement in form prior to their Gameweek 36 double against Crystal Palace and Everton.

Fixtures around the Double Gameweeks
Leicester now sit top of the Fantasy Football Scout fixture ticker. They have a fixture run which includes three Double Gameweeks in 33, 36 and 37. These three Double Gameweeks include fixtures against Newcastle, Everton twice, Norwich, Watford and Chelsea. Around these fixtures Leicester also play Southampton, Palace, Aston Villa and Spurs.
Managers looking to invest in Villa however should be conscious of their blank in Gameweek 33.
However, FPL managers should be cautious of Leicester’s continued involvement in the Europa Conference League. If Leicester make it through to the next round of the European competition they will play midweek and at the weekend every week until the end of the season. This could result in rotation in the Premier League.
Like Leicester, Burnley, Spurs, Chelsea and Arsenal also have excellent fixture runs to the end of the season. This have now been further enhanced by the Double Gameweek announcement. FPL managers should look to begin investing in these teams to ensure maximum potential returns in the Double Gameweeks as well as during the rest of the run in.
