What is the Triple Captain chip?
We take a look at a question that new FPL managers ask themselves ahead of their season, what is the Triple Captain chip? We touch upon how it works, what the benefits are and when the best time to use it could be.
Every season Fantasy Premier League provides managers with something called chips. Chips are additional ways to gain rank or an edge over our mini-league rivals. Those chips include the Bench Boost, Wildcard, Free Hit and Triple Captain, but what is the Triple Captain chip?
What is the Triple Captain chip?
Triple captain is self-explanatory in that managers will receive triple points awarded to any player they select as captain in any given Gameweek. Only one Triple Captain is provided by the game per season so managers should give it great thought as when to use it.
When are the best times to use it?
- Players in form – Similar to the captaincy, picking an in-form player against any team could be a great time to use it.
- Players with great fixtures – Another time to utilise it could be when the best players face the weakest teams in the league.
- Double Gameweeks – Double Gameweeks can be the best time to use any chips. Using the Triple captain in a double Gameweek gives a player two attempts at returns. This reinforces that the best time to use it would be during a Double Gameweek.
Which players could be considered?
The best players to use the chip on are the best players. Because of this, and providing he has a double Gameweek Erling Haaland will be favourite to take it. The striker topped the FPL points chart in 22/23 with a huge 36 goals and eight assists. Other players, with double Gameweeks like Harry Kane and Mohamed Salah would also be considered.
