What is a Free Hit?

Last modified date

We answer one of the most asked questions within the FPL community, what is a Free Hit? With the help of the Official Fantasy Premier League website we cover all of the basics to help beginners understand the use of the Free Hit.

The Free Hit is one of the four chips provided by the game to help gain rank or an edge over our mini-league rivals. Other chips provided include the Wildcard, Bench Boost, and Triple Captain and we cover them all in this series.

What is a Free Hit?

The Free Hit chip allows managers to use unlimited transfers for a Gameweek. Using the Free Hit chip means you can replace the entirety of your 15-man squad. However your squad will return to its original state after the Gameweek you use it for.

Other important details:

  • A Free Hit cannot be cancelled when used.
  • Managers cannot benefit from price changes during the use of a Free Hit.
  • If you use your free transfer and then your Free Hit, you lose your original transfer.
  • If your player suffers a price drop during the use of the Free Hit you will lose value on that player.

When to use the Free Hit?

Managers can use the Free Hit for several different reasons:

  • Injuries and postponements – If you have suffered several different key injuries or postponements then the Free Hit can be very useful to replace said players.
  • Double Gameweeks – Targeting the best teams and players in a double Gameweek with the Free Hit can be very beneficial for both rank and mini-league position.
  • Blank Gameweeks – This is when teams and players do not have a fixture. Managers can target teams and players who do have fixtures.
  • Targeting differentials – Differentials are key to gaining rank. Investing in a handful of differentials via the Free Hit can be very beneficial to rank and mini-league position.
