Underachievers GW30: Which players are due an FPL goal?

Last modified date

Using recent underlying stats from the Fantasy Football Scout, we assess which players are due an FPL goal.

Recent FPL goals

Some forwards are in great form over their last four matches:

6 GOALS – Ivan Toney

4 GOALS – Cristiano Ronaldo, Kai Havertz, Harry Kane, Sadio Mane, Mohamed Salah

3 GOALS – Cucho Hernandez, Riyad Mahrez, Raheem Sterling, Wilfried Zaha, Hakim Ziyech

However, others are shooting and getting in the right places without having either luck or end product.

So let’s look at the players who have recorded at least nine shots, an expected goals (xG) tally of 1.00 and an expected goal involvement (xGI) of 1.20 over their last four matches, yet no more than one goal.

Due an FPL goal

Firstly, last week’s debut article saw immediate success for several players we flagged as being on the verge of a goal. Stuart Armstrong scored against Newcastle, Philippe Coutinho did the same against Leeds and Luis Diaz got a whack whilst doing so for Liverpool.

Alexandre Lacazette scored a penalty (still counts!) versus Leicester. And did Cristiano Ronaldo do much at the weekend?

So there’s pressure on this lot to score as soon as possible.

Ahead of Blank Gameweek 30, five of this list are set to participate. Arsenal duo Lacazette and Thomas Partey appear, despite both netting in Sunday’s 2-0 win over Leicester. Their opponents couldn’t score despite the best attempts of Harvey Barnes, whose last 887 minutes (around ten matches) have produced three goals and six assists. Unfortunately, it has been spread out due to injury.

Luckily, he has started four of Leicester’s last five matches and is emerging as their primary attacking asset. Team mate Youri Tielemans is also on the list.

So those using a Free Hit this week should certainly consider these five, which includes Raphinha. Linked today with Barcelona and Liverpool, the match against Norwich was another game where he did everything but score. Although the Brazilian assisted the dramatic stoppage time winner, it still felt like a disappointment to FPL managers considering his expected goal involvement (xGI) of 1.68 and two shots that hit the woodwork.

Although Leeds face a resolute Wolves defence in Gameweek 30, the high involvement of Raphinha makes his selection very tempting. He is certainly due a goal.
