Underachievers GW29: Which players are due an FPL goal?

Last modified date

Using recent underlying stats from the Fantasy Football Scout, we assess which players are due an FPL goal.

Recent FPL goals

Some forwards are in great form over their last four matches:

5 GOALS – Harry Kane, Ivan Toney

4 GOALS – Sadio Mane

3 GOALS – Kevin De Bruyne, Riyad Mahrez, Raheem Sterling, Mo Salah, Wilfried Zaha, Hakim Ziyech

However, others are shooting and getting in the right places without having either luck or end product.

So let’s look at the players who have recorded at least nine shots, an expected goals (xG) tally of 1.00 and an expected goal involvement (xGI) of 1.20 over their last four matches, yet no more than one goal.

Due an FPL goal

Although Alexandre Lacazette is goalless over recent matches, he has provided five assists for Arsenal team mates. 14 of his 17 attempts have been inside the box and brought an xG of 2.18. Considering the Gunners are about to begin a Double Gameweek, followed by a promising fixture run that includes a match in Blank Gameweek 30, he could be worth a punt. Unfortunately, Lacazette comes with a much higher price tag than midfield team mate Bukayo Saka.

At Southampton, the debate has been about whether to invest in Armando Broja or Che Adams, yet it’s Stuart Armstrong who is taking more shots – albeit mostly from outside the box. New Liverpool signing Luis Diaz has played over 80 minutes in four of the five league matches since his arrival. He already looks a seamless fit into the team and is getting plenty of penalty area touches.

Of the rest, Cristiano Ronaldo and Emmanuel Dennis are still getting involved despite losing favour within the FPL community. Philippe Coutinho and Raphinha go head-to-head on Thursday night as two of the most popular midfield assets right now. Whilst Coutinho had a great time versus Southampton, Raphinha did everything but score at Leicester. A huge close-range chance was missed to frustrate his 92.54% effective ownership inside the top 10k.

Finally, Foxes midfielder Youri Tielemans could be an interesting pick against Brentford in Blank Gameweek 30, with three games-in-hand also to be rescheduled.
