UCL Fantasy Matchday 5 review

We look at the UCL Fantasy Matchday 5 review. Overviewing every game that was played out in the latest round of Champions League football. Covering player of the match awards and picking out players who drew in some of the biggest returns of the round.

With Matchday 5 now over, we can look back and reflect. Matchday 6 is just around the corner so looking at the players that did well could be beneficial to UCL Fantasy managers as they plan for the new round ahead of Matchday 6.

Sevilla v Copenhagen

Both sides came into the game with a poor Champions League run behind them. Although that was the case, Sevilla comfortably dismantled Copenhagen in their 3-0 win. Midfielder Isco (£6.5m) took the player of the match award, combined with his goal, he finished the match with 11 points.

Budget defender Gonzalo Montiel (£4.3m) took the bulk of the points. His 14 points consisted of a goal, clean sheet and nine ball recoveries.

Salzburg v Chelsea

The away side took the win here. The match ended 2-1 to Chelsea. Budget midfielder and Chelsea man Jorginho hit seven points after he claimed the player of the match award. Fellow teammate and midfielder Mateo Kovacic (£6m) bettered the Italian. Kovacic collected nine points for his goal.

Chelsea forward Kai Havertz (£8.9m) returned seven points after he scored the winning goal.

Dinamo Zagreb v Milan

Away team Milan were seeking out another win after their two back-to-back losses against Chelsea in the group. The Italian side bagged four goals in their 4-0 win. Midfielder Sandro Tonali (£6.5m) collected 11 points due to his assist, penalty earned and player of the match award.

Budget defender Matteo Gabbia (£4.4m) hit a hefty 14 points. The Italian scored and kept a clean sheet. Another returner was the well owned forward Rafael Leao (£8.5m). He managed six points for his goal.

Celtic v Shakhtar Donetsk

There may have been a lack of owners seeking a return in this one. The Scottish side could not progress even before the match due to their poor Champions League run. The game ended in a tightly contested 1-1 draw.

Celtic midfielder Matthew O’Riley (£6m) claimed the player of the match award giving him six points. Shakhtar Donetsk midfielder Mykhailo Mudryk (£6.3m) hit eight points for goal scored.

Leipzig v Real Madrid

In one of the shocks of the week, Leipzig finished the game with a thrilling 3-2 victory. Leipzig defender Mohamed Simakan (£4.7m) continued his great UCL Fantasy run. Simakan secured nine points after his assist and player of the match award.

Leipzig midfielder Christopher Nkunku (£9m) also rewarded his owners with six points after scoring. Another highly owned asset to succeed was Real Madrid midfielder Vinicus Junior (£10m). The Brazilian picked up eight points for scoring his goal.

Dortmund v Man City

There was more disappointment for Man City owners for the second Matchday in a row. The game ended 0-0 but heavily owned players defender Joao Cancelo (£6.7m) and striker Erling Haaland (£11.1m) both came off at half time to bring in just one point each.

The big returners included Dortmund defender Mats Hummels (£5m). The German centre back returned 10 points after he kept a clean sheet and received the player of the match award. Fellow teammate and goalkeeper Gregor Kobel (£4.9m) saved a penalty and kept a clean sheet to pick up his 12 points.

PSG v Maccabi Haifa

The home side proved how well they can attack in their massive 7-2 win. PSG forward Lionel Messi (£10.5m) returned a whopping 20 points after he scored two goals, created two assists and picked up the player of the match award.

Fellow forward Kylian Mbappe (£11.2m) also hit double digits. The Frenchman scored two goals and created two assists to pick up his 16 points.

Benfica v Juventus

In one of the most entertaining matches of Matchday 5, The Portuguese side came out on top with their 4-3 victory. Benfica forward Rafa Silva (£8.5m) scored two goals and collected the player of the match award to hit 13 points. His teammate and midfielder Joao Mario (£6m) struck 10 points due to his goal and assist.

Club Brugge v Porto

Ahead of this match Club Brugge had managed four successive clean sheets. That great run did not extend as the away side ran riot in their 4-0 win. Forward Mehdi Taremi (£7.5m) hit his third back-to-back return in a row. His two goals and player of the match award took him to 14 points in Matchday 5.

Goalkeeper Diogo Costa (£5.1m) secured his third double-digit haul (12 points) in a row after his penalty save and clean sheet.

Inter v Plzen

Inter fans enjoyed another comfortable win against Plzen after their 4-0 victory. Forward Edin Dzeko (£7.5m) came back to top form after blanking in the previous two matches. He scored two goals and picked up the player of the match award to take his Matchday total to 13 points.

Budget defender Federico Dimarco (£4.5m) managed 10 points after his assist and clean sheet.

Ajax v Liverpool

It was a good night for Liverpool. After weathering the Ajax attack, they picked their opponents apart to take their 3-0 win. Midfielder Mohamed Salah (£11.1m) picked up 11 points for his goal and assist. Defender Andy Robertson (£5.9m) hit 14 points because of his assist, clean sheet and player of the match award.

Frankfurt v Marseille

The home side won 2-1 this week. Frankfurt midfielder Mario Gotze (£6.5m) picked up the player of the match award with his assist. His total hit nine points for the Matchday. His teammate and fellow midfielder Daichi Kamada (£7m) struck seven points after his goal.

Napoli v Rangers

Napoli maintained their unbelievable run of form with another comfortable win. This time the Italian side finished with a 3-0 win. Forward Giovanni Simeone (£7m) scored two goals and collected his award for player of the match to return 13 points.

Giovanni De Lorenzo (£5.1m) hit double digits with 11 points. His return came from a clean sheet and an assist.

Atletico v Leverkusen

Many fans did not expect goals in this one. However, that was not the case as they drew 2-2. Atletico midfielder Yannick Carrasco (£7.4m) picked up a huge 12 points for his goal, assist and player of the match award.

Another successful midfielder was Leverkusen man Callum Hudson-Odoi (£6m). The English winger collected seven points for his goal.

Barcelona v Bayern

Bayern continued their dominance in the group with a huge 3-0 win against the Spanish giants. Midfielder Serge Gnabry (£8.9m) hauled with his 13-point return. Gnabry’s points consisted of three assists.

One of the most owned players in this match was midfielder Sadio Mane (£10.7m). He finished on 11 points for his goal.

Tottenham v Sporting

This game ended in a 1-1 draw. Sporting midfielder Marcus Edwards (£7.1m) bagged 12 points for his goal and player of the match award. Tottenham midfielder Rodrigo Bentancur (£6m) collected nine points after his goal and ball recoveries.
