Transfer Window: gossip and rumours

Last modified date

With the summer here, the internet is rife with FPL transfer rumours and gossip. So here is a round-up of today’s key talking points.

The summer transfer window is always busy for clubs as they get ready for the new season. It is also a time where FPL managers carefully watch the market to get a feel for how their FPL teams might look next season.

As singings are made official our new signings article will be updated.

Wednesday 13th July: gossip and rumours

The Telegraph: New striker for Newcastle?

The Times are reporting that Newcastle have held talks with Real Sociedad about signing Alexander Isak. If agreed the transfer would be a club-record deal.

FPL Comment: Arsenal we interested in signing the striker during the transfer window. However there were reports that the player had doubts and the transfer never happened. The player scored 10 goals and registered six goals in all competitions last season. He would add to Callum Wilson and Chris Wood as forward options at Newcastle and therefore could have some rotated minutes.

David Ornstein: Broja to join Chelsea tour

The Athletic are reporting that Broja will join Chelsea on their pre-season tour. The player had stayed behind amid interest from other Premier League clubs.

FPL Comment: If Broja stays at Chelsea FPL managers will likely avoid the forward through fear of a lack of minutes. However, if the player gets game time for the Blues over preseason and they do not sign another forward he could offer a cheap route in to the Chelsea attack. Managers will want to monitor this window closely.

Tuesday 12th July: gossip and rumours

Fabrizio Romero: Yarmolyuk to the Bee’s

Romero is reporting that Yarmolyuk has had a visa approved and will be announced as a Brentford player shortly.

FPL Comment: Yehor Yarmolyuk had a distrupted season last year as a result of the Ukrainian league’s postponement The attacking midfielder could offer great attacking threat, however he had no attacking returns last season.

The Times: Ronaldo’s future

Manchester United are trying to persuade Ronaldo to withdraw his transfer request. Yesterday Ten Hag announced that Ronaldo was part of his plans and wasn’t for sale.

FPL Comment: If Manchester United can make Ronaldo happy he would be a great FPL differential. The majority of the game will be looking to invest in Haaland. However, Ronaldo’s a proven Premier League goalscorer and therefore could be a great option if fully committed.

Diario Sport: Raphinha’s future

Diario Sport are reporting that Raphinha’s agent cooled the interest from Chelsea in pursuit of a move to Barcelona. Leeds and Chelsea have had an agreement for the player in place for a couple of weeks, however the player has not agreed terms. Raphinha’s desire is to join Barcelona.

FPL Comment: If Raphinha does move to Barcelona he will no longer be an FPL option. However FPL managers should keep an eye on who replaces Raphinha in the Leeds starting XI.

Monday 11th July: gossip and rumours

Fabrizio Romero: Kane to Bayern a non-starter

Over the weekend there were rumours of Bayern’s interest in signing Harry Kane. This is to replace Robert Lewandowski who wants to leave the club this summer. However Romero reports these rumours are unfounded and that Spurs will open talks on a new deal with the player this summer.

FPL Comment: Haaland is currently proving to be the most popular player in FPL, this means that Kane is being somewhat overlooked. At the back end of the 2021/22 season under Conte Kane was outstanding. a full season under Conte could see him as one of FPL’s top scorers.

The Mail: Chelsea to join the Lewandowski race

The Mail are reporting that both Chelsea and Paris St-Germain will enter the race to sign Lewandowski. Lewandowski wants to join Barcelona this summer, however the Mail suggests that should this fail to happen that Chelsea would be interested in the player

FPL Comment: Chelsea missed an out and out striker last season with Lukuka never really making his mark on the club. With Lukaku reportedly looking for a route out of Chelsea this summer Lewandowski would be an excellent replacement. He would likely be £11.5m in FPL which would dent Haaland’s popularity.
