Top three premium picks

Last modified date

Most FPL managers spend the season wondering how many premium picks is optimum in FPL. Too many and the team can be unbalanced and lack depth, especially on the bench. Not enough and the manager risks losing out on all important points hauls. We assess the top three premium picks for Gameweek 37.

Most FPL managers will have three premium players in their teams. This can be a combination of defenders, midfielders and forwards. However, with some spreading of budget it is possible to have Trent Alexander-Arnold or Andy Robertson, as well as three premium attackers. Leaving the defensive premiums, who are the best three attacking premium players for Gameweek 37?

1. Son Heung-Min

Tottenham’s Son Heung-min is top for goals scored in the last 12 Gameweeks across the game.

He is also second for attacking returns across the game with 15, only Harry Kane has more with 16. Son is also second across the game for chances created in this period with

Son faces Burnley in Gameweek 37. The midfielder has returned three double digit hauls in this last four matches against the Clarets. In that time he has averaged nine points per match. Son is also a great own for the final Gameweek of the season against Norwich. Son has returned in both of his last two Premier League meetings with newly relegated Norwich returning 20 points, 13 coming in the reverse of this fixture.

Son has returned four double digit hauls in his last seven Premier League matches. In this period returning 80 FPL points, more than any other player in the game.

2. Mo Salah

Liverpool’s Mo Salah continues to be the highest scoring player in FPL this season. He is also leading the race for the golden boot, although Son is just two goals behind now.

Salah is second for goal attempts in the last 12 Gameweeks, only Kane has had more.

Salah faces Southampton in Gameweek 37. He has returned in seven of his nine Premier League meetings with Southampton. In this time he has returned 76 points, an average of 8.44 points per match. Salah also has a great record against Wolves, earning 23 points in his last three matches against them.

The Liverpool midfielder is the most popular pick in the game and therefore would be a big risk for FPL managers to go without.

3. Harry Kane

Kane has been outshone by Son in recent weeks. However his underlying stats suggest that he has been unlucky not to return more FPL points than he has of late.

Kane is top for goal attempts in the last 12 Gameweeks with 48. He is also top for attacking returns in the same period with 16.

The Tottenham talisman has a good record against Gameweek 37 opponents Burnley. Kane has returned in six of his last seven fixtures agains the Clarets. In that time he has returned two double digit hauls and 59 points. This is an average of 8.42 points per match. Kane also has a good record against Gameweek 38 opponents Norwich returning in three of the four fixtures he has started against them in the League. Kane averages 9 points per match against them.

With Spurs trying to secure top four football for next season Kane has the added motivation for goals and returns in the final Gameweek.

Overall

Son, Salah and Kane are the three obvious picks for Gameweek 37. However managers shouldn’t rule out players such as Sadio Mane and Kevin De Bruyne, especially if they are looking for a differential. Mane has returned two double digit hauls in his last four meetings with Southampton. Meanwhile De Bruyne has a difficult fixture against a West Ham team who are looking to secure Europa League football again for the new season. De Bruyne has returned in seven of the ten fixtures he has started against West Ham in the Premier League. He averages 6.4 points per match against the Hammers.
