Top three picks for Gameweek 32
David Munday is back with his top three picks for the upcoming gameweek. This week he takes a look at his top three picks for Gameweek 32.
Food has somehow become something of a theme in my articles of late so I was disappointed to discover none of this week’s picks play for teams with edible nicknames.
But don’t rule out a play-on-words feast for Gameweek 32 because one of my choices is hungry… like the wolf. I’m sorry, but the man with the golden puns has entered the building.
Max Kilman
If you’re using the Free Hit chip this week then you need yourself a Free Hit man. Thankfully, there’s one man walking around the Premier League with a licence to kill..and that’s Wolves defender Max Kilman (£4.4m).
With his fixture and form combined, the budget option can make a killing this week as Julien Lopetegui’s men travel to Leicester. They’ve kept two clean sheets on the bounce now. Plus in their last four matches, have given up the smallest number of big chances among Premier League teams.
Up next is a Leicester side, who are scaring the The Living Daylights out of their fans in their struggle for goals. Across the Foxes’ last four, they rank second-bottom in the division for expected goals (xG). This makes them statistically one of the worst teams for finding the net going into the weekend.
The best way to capitalise on that in the Blank Gameweek is to meet it with A View to a Kilman. The centre-back is arguably the most assured starter in the Wolves defence and is also the king of bonus points.
If you have access to the Fantasy Football Scout Members Area then these stats are For Your Eyes Only. They’re very impressive. Over Wolves’ last four matches, Kilman is top for clearances, blocks and interceptions. He is also top for BPS+ and BBPS and also ranking second for pass completion and recoveries.
If I were you, I wouldn’t say Dr. No to this one.
Sam Johnstone
Elsewhere, make sure you train those golden, eagled eyes on the Crystal Palace defence too. It can be very easy to get distracted by the attacking talent on display at Roy Hodgson’s reinvigorated side. But Palace have been quietly improving their backline too.
Over the last four Premier League matches, no team has conceded fewer big chances than Palace (joint-best alongside Wolves), while they sit in the division’s top five for fewest shots conceded and shots given up in the box.
Everton come into Gameweek 32 ranking inside the Premier League’s bottom three for xG from open play over the same period and Johnstone could make the difference against any attacking threat they do muster considering he’s amassed 11 saves in his last two appearances.
Jacob Ramsey
When it comes to green arrows, we’re now at the stage where The Watkins is Not Enough. Owning the Aston Villa striker is going to do nothing but protect you against rank falls. You absolutely should have him in your team this weekend but I would consider doubling up on Unai Emery’s side in some form, allowing Watkins’s goals to actually push you up the ranks.
I’ve had Alex Moreno (£4.5m) in my main team for a few weeks but I’ve got an eye on Jacob Ramsey (£5.2m) for my Free Hit iteration. The budget midfielder now has five attacking returns in as many Premier League outings, topped off with a double-figure haul against Newcastle last time out.
Ramsey’s numbers suggest he can continue that form into Gameweek 32. Over his past four, Watkins is the only regular Villa starter with more efforts on goal or shots in the box than him, and none of his colleagues can match him for key passes or big chances created. Meanwhile, Brentford have conceded the third-highest number of efforts on goal of any top-flight team in the same period.
