Top three midfielders for Gameweek 38

Last modified date

Gameweek 38 is the final opportunity for FPL managers to secure their mini league positions and boost their overall rank. Midfielders have played a vital role this season with many FPL managers preferring to invest heavily in this position. We assess the top three midfielders for Gameweek 38.

The five midfielder spots have been highly contested in FPL this season. There have been a number of great options for FPL managers to chose from. With just one set of fixtures left in the season, having the right ones will be key to a successful end to the season. FPL managers need to consider the fixtures, play form, possible rotation as well as whether teams have something left to play for in making their choices.

1. Kevin De Bruyne

Man City dropped points in Gameweek 37 in their 2-2 draw with West Ham. This means that they will need to ensure all three points in Gameweek 38 to be certain of retaining the Premier League title.

Man City have scored the most goals in the Premier League so far this season with 96. De Bruyne is their top goal scorer with 15 despite having only made 24 starts this season. The midfielder is also top for attacking returns in the City team this season with 22.

De Bruyne has returned in two of his last three meetings with Gameweek 38 opponents Aston Villa, returning three assists for his teammates. The Midfielder has had 17 goal attempts in the last six matches, a number only beaten by four other midfielders. His 22 chances created is also top amongst midfielders in the same period.

With De Bruyne in good form and Man City needing to achieve all three points, he looks an excellent pick for the final Gameweek.

2. Son Heung-Min

Like De Bruyne Tottenham’s Son has been in sparkling form in recent weeks. Son also has the added appeal of Spurs’ needing to win the final game of the season to try to achieve a top four finish.

Since Gameweek 27 Son has scored 12 goals, more than any other midfielder. 11 of these goals have come from inside the box.

Son’s 27 chances created in this period is third amongst midfielders with only De Bruyne and Martin Odegaard having made more.

The South Korean captain has returned 20 points in his last two Premier League matches against Norwich. Son’s two goals, one assist, two bonus points and one clean sheet point in the last two matches against Norwich will make him an attractive FPL option.

3. Christian Eriksen

Eriksen’s contract with Brentford expires after Gameweek 38. He will be looking to end the season on a high as he looks for a team for the 2022/23 season. Eriksen has returned in back-to-back Gameweeks, he is top for crosses since Gameweek 33 with 50.

In addition only De Bruyne has created more chances than Eriksen’s 19 in this period and he is third for xA in the same period too.

This makes Eriksen the perfect budget enabling option for FPL managers, especially those planning to Free Hit in Gameweek 38.
