@FPLReaction' first FPL draft

The best strikers to start the season with in FPL

Last modified date

The new Premier League campaign is edging closer and the fantasy game is live which means managers can now check out all of the player prices, build drafts and more. We focus on the pool of players available and pick out the best strikers to start the season with in FPL

Drafting teams ahead of the new season is a standard planning process within the FPL community. It gives us a great indication of how we want set-up and how we are going to spend our budget. Picking out the best strikers to start the season with in FPL could be hugely beneficial to managers and a great starting point to building the rest of our squads.

The fixtures

The fixture ticker orders teams with the easiest matches at the top, all the way down to the teams with the toughest matches at the bottom. We can see that Arsenal, Manchester City, Chelsea, Luton and Brentford all rank amongst the top five teams with the best early fixtures.

Gabriel Jesus

Arsenal were fantastic last season and their form meant they secured a second place finish in the division. One of their best traits was their offensive line. In fact, last season when compared every other side they ranked second for goals (88) and third for shots in the box (414).

It could be a great start to the season for Arsenal. They face Nottingham Forest, Crystal Palace, Fulham, Manchester United, Everton and Tottenham. Taking into account their schedule and offensive data it could be very beneficial to invest in their front line.

Gabriel Jesus (£8m) could be a fantastic option. The Brazilian comes in £0.5m cheaper than his teammates Bukayo Saka and Martin Odegaard. In addition, amongst all strikers in the league last campaign he sat fifth for non penalty expected goal involvement per 90 minutes (0.70), fourth for shots in the box (73) and second for penalty area touches (220).

Erling Haaland

Manchester City weren’t just the best team in England last season but also the best team in Europe. They managed to secure the treble which only emphasised how good they really are. Offensively, they were hard to beat. Amongst all teams last season they ranked first for goals (94), first for big chances (132) and second for shots on target (214).

The English and European champions start the season with games against Burnley, Newcastle, Sheffield United, Fulham, West Ham and Nottingham Forest. Manchester City’ face two of the newly promoted sides and two of the 21/22 promoted sides in their first six fixtures.

His quality may not need justifying but Erling Haaland (£14m) should be the first name in every draft for the new season. The Norwegian racked up an eye-watering 36 goals and eight assists last season accumulating to 272 points which made him the highest scoring player in the game.

Carlton Morris

Luton gained promotion after an impressive campaign in which they scored a collective 57 goals, created 38 assists and averaged 1.2 goals per game. It’s entirely different ball game for Luton coming into the Premier League but they have schedule to get off to a great start.

According to the fixture ticker Luton rank fourth. In their first six games they face Brighton, Burnley, Chelsea, West Ham, Fulham and Wolves. The newly promoted side also face just one of last seasons top eight placed clubs.

The focal point and penalty taker in the Luton offensive line is Carlton Morris (£5.5m). The 27-year-old played an instrumental role for his side scoring almost half of the goals they netted in their entire 22/23 Championship campaign (27). His cheap price-tag is another appealing factor too. Taking into account all of the above, Morris could be a great budget enabler to start the new season with.

Harry Kane

Tottenham were inconsistent for large parts of their 22/23 campaign. This eventually led to an eighth place finish in the Premier League. That may have been the case but they still racked up an impressive 70 goals.

They have a mixed start to the season in terms of schedule. Tottenham have matches against Brentford, Manchester United, Bournemouth, Burnley, Sheffield United and Arsenal. What is interesting is that they face three relegation favourites in their first period which could increase the appeal of their attacking assets.

One striker who should be considered is Harry Kane (£12.5m). The Englishman racked up 30 goals and three assists last season. This helped to become the second highest scoring player in the game. He also maintained some fantastic stats. In fact, amongst all forwards he ranked second for goals, first for attempts on goal (130), second for shots in the box (98) and second for big chances (34).

Other great striker options

  • Christopher Nkunku (£7.5m) – There is a huge possibility that the Frenchman both leads the attack and takes his sides penalties. Chelsea also rank third on the fixture ticker.
  • Evan Ferguson (£6m) – The Irishman comes in with a great enabling price-tag. Brighton also have great starting fixtures. In addition they ranked first for shots on target last season (225).
  • Dominic Calvert-Lewin (£6m) – DCL is the focal point and penalty taker in the Everton attack. The Toffees also have a fair run of fixtures to start the campaign with.
  • Ollie Watkins (£8m) – Aston Villa look to have turned over a new leaf after claiming European football last season under Unai Emery. Watkins leads his offensive line whilst also taking his sides penalties. He also ranked amongst the best four strikers in the league last campaign for shots in the box (81) and big chances total (32).
