Fixtures
The fixture ticker below shows all of the teams towards the top with the easiest fixtures from now until the end of the season, moving all of the way down to the teams with the toughest fixtures at the bottom.
We can see that Southampton rank amongst the worst six teams for having the toughest fixtures until the end of the season. However, the Saints do have a double Gameweek in the round ahead and have a fixture in blank Gameweek 28.
It is also worth noting that they face tough double Gameweek and tough blank gameweek fixtures. This could mean managers avoid investing in Southampton’s assets.
The Southampton attack
This season Southampton rank joint second worst for goals scored (20) and rank amongst the worst eight teams for attempts on goal (283), shots in the box (173), big chances total (75) and shots on target (89). It has been a tough season for the Saints in front of goal.
More recently, in the last six Gameweeks Southampton also rank amongst the four worst teams for goals scored (three), shots in the box (37) and big chances total (six). Southampton have been maintaining poor offensive statistics all season.
The best attacking options
The standout option in the Southampton attack is James Ward-Prowse (£6.3m). The midfielder leads his teammates for non-penalty expected goal involvement (1.22) in the last six matches. Ward-Prowse also sits as his teams highest scoring player in FPL (90 points). Not only does he take his teams penalty’s and set pieces but he also has a world class ability to score from direct free kicks with his total standing in double-digits in the Premier League.
The second best attacking option could be Che Adams (£6.1m) who has banked nine FPL returns this season including one double-digit haul. Adams has fallen victim to rotation as of late however.
The Southampton defence
This season Southampton rank as the fourth worst team for goals conceded (41), the worst for clean sheets kept (three) and around mid-table for other key defensive data points. The Saints have shown some concerning defensive stats this campaign.
More recently, in the last six Gameweeks amongst all teams in the league they rank amongst the best six teams for shots on target conceded (17) and big chances conceded (nine). They also rank around mid-table for goals conceded (seven) and clean sheets kept (two). This could suggest that they are improving defensively.
The best defensive options
The Southampton backline has fallen victim to rotation as of late so finding nailed defensive options could be key. One of those is goalkeeper Gavin Bazunu (£4.5m). He has picked up two returns in his last three Premier League matches.
The only defender who has played all of Southampton’s last five league matches is Jan Bednarek (£4.2m) who has also picked up two returns in his last two matches. Any other options outside if these two players could be rotation risks.
