The best captain in gameweek 4

Last modified date

We try and find the best captain in gameweek 4 in FPL. With the help of the Fantasy Football Scout members area we can use the season ticker and underlying stats to try and find the best captaincy option for the gameweek ahead.

Captaincy is one of the most important decisions a manager can make in any given gameweek. Writing up a shortlist of options can be helpful but picking out the best can be even more important for FPL managers.

Fixture ticker

Below you can see teams near the top with the easier fixtures going all the way down the table to teams with the tougher fixtures at the bottom. The season ticker can be very helpful but won’t always give us the full story on which players make the best captaincy options.

We can see teams like Brentford, Brighton and Leeds near the top of the ticker. However in this case those teams don’t tend to have reliable FPL assets especially when taking captaincy into consideration. Arsenal, Liverpool, Tottenham and Man City are teams that we can usually rely on for FPL points so that’s where our focus will be.

The options – Gabriel Jesus

Arsenal rank first in the league for having the easiest fixture ahead according to the season ticker. This indicates that captaining an Arsenal attacker could be a good idea. So far this season Arsenal rank joint first for goals scored, third for attempts inside the box and third for big chances total. The attacking stats are there for Arsenal.

The most owned player in the game and forward Gabriel Jesus has started the season well. His 25 FPL points this season consists of three assists and two goals and averages 8.3 points per match so far this season.

Jesus faces Fulham this week. Their defensive stats so far show quite an impressive backline. Fulham come in the best 10 teams in the league for goal attempts conceded in the box, outside the box, shots on goal conceded, and shots on target conceded. Although good Fulham conceded one less big chance than the worst teams in the league.

Salah

Liverpool rank third on the fixture ticker with a match against newly promoted side Bournemouth. This shows that captaining a Liverpool player could be beneficial. Liverpool rank second for goal attempts just behind Man City, rank first for goal attempts in the box, and rank fourth for big chances total. Another positive when considering a Liverpool attacker for captaincy.

Salah also comes into the season with attacking form. His 22 points so far consist of two goals and one assist and also averages 7.3 points per match so far already.

Salah has an upcoming match against Bournemouth next. The promoted side are the second worst for goals conceded and second worst for shots conceded. This means Bournemouth could be a great team to target for captaincy.

Harry Kane

Tottenham rank just below Liverpool on the fixture difficulty ticker in fourth. This season so far Spurs are fifth for goals scored, fourth for attempts in the box and second for shots on target. This is very appealing when considering a team to delve into for captaincy options.

Striker Harry Kane has had a solid start to the season. His 16 points so far came from two goals which averages out at 5.3 points per match so far.

Tottenham’s opponent this gameweek is Nottingham Forest. The newly promoted team are the second worst for shots in the box conceded, the worst from shots outside the box conceded and the worst for total attempts on goal conceded. This makes Kane even more appealing as a captaincy option.

Haaland

Man City rank seventh on the season ticker. Although that is the case so far this season they rank joint first for goals scored, first for total attempts on goal, second for shots inside the box and first for big chances total.

Forward Haaland has already shown he’s comfortable playing in the Premier League. The Man City attacker has already managed 24 points so far averaging eight points per match. Those points resulted from his three goals and one assist.

Man City play Crystal Palace next. So far they are the joint worst for goal attempts conceded in the box, but come in the top 10 best teams for shots on target conceded and big chances total. This means that Crystal Palace could be quite tough.

The best captain for gameweek 4

Although all of the other candidates could be fantastic captaincy material it’s the Liverpool midfielder that stands out. Tottenham’s Harry Kane came close but the extra points Salah can earn from keeping a clean sheet and scoring a goal gives him an additional route to points.

Salah’s fixture is fantastic. His opponents have shown a poor defence which means the Egyptian can go big in gameweek 4.
