The best captain in Gameweek 27

Last modified date

We find the best captain in Gameweek 27. With the help of the Fantasy Football Scout members area we can use the season ticker and underlying stats to find the best captaincy option for the Gameweek ahead.

Captaincy is one of the most important decisions a manager can make in fantasy football. Writing up a shortlist of options can be helpful but picking out the best captain in Gameweek 27 can be even more important for FPL managers.

Fixture ticker

Below you can see teams near the top with the easier fixtures, going all the way down the table to teams with the tougher fixtures. The season ticker can be very helpful. However, won’t always give us the full story on which players make the best captaincy options.

The options – Ivan Toney

Brentford sit first on the fixture ticker this week with their double Gameweek. Brentford have been maintaining mid-table offensive stats as of late. However, in the season as a whole, they rank amongst the best eight teams for goals scored (40), goals scored in the box (24) and big chances total (63).

They face two struggling teams in Everton and Southampton in the round ahead. Both of their opponents rank amongst the worst seven teams this season for goals conceded and both find themselves in a tight relegation battle.

Brentford’s main man and penalty taker is Ivan Toney (£7.8m). The striker has managed 15 goals and three assists in 22 games this campaign. Amongst all forwards this season he ranks third for goals, third for goals inside the box (13), fifth for attempts on goal (66) and second for big chances total (26).

Alexis Mac Allister

Brentford rank second on the fixture ticker for their double Gameweek ahead. They have been maintaining some great offensive stats this season so far. However in the last six Gameweeks they have improved even more as they rank amongst the best five teams for total attempts on goal (91), shots in the box (60) and big chances total (21).

Crystal Palace and Leeds lay ahead for Brighton. Their opponents have been struggling for defensive consistency all season. Both also rank amongst the worst six teams in the league for big chances total this season.

Alexis Mac Allister (£5.4m) has become a genuine FPL option over the last several Gameweeks. Taking up a new advanced attacking position, the midfielder also takes his sides penalties and set pieces. In the last four Gameweeks Mac Allister ranks fifth amongst all players in the league for non penalty expected goal involvement (2.86).

Solly March

Brighton’s fantastic double Gameweek fixtures continue to pour out great captaincy options. Staying with their midfield Solly March (£5.1m) is also a great alternative. March has managed four double-digit hauls in his last 10 matches, reflecting explosiveness in FPL.

Not only does March rank above his teammates for non penalty expected goal involvement this season (9.52) but he has also edged them in the last six Gameweeks (3.15). Unlike his teammate Mac Allister, March’s attacking position is secure long term.

Other single Gameweek options

  • Manchester City striker Erling Haaland (£12.2m)
  • Manchester United midfielder Marcus Rashford (£7.4m)
  • Arsenal midfielder Bukayo Saka (£8.5m)

Who is the best captain in Gameweek 27?

There are some great single Gameweek options but the potential in a double Gameweek is too hard to ignore. Brighton have been maintaining some great stats and also have great fixtures. However their returns have been split three ways this season so it could be difficult to pin-point the best option.

Brentford have a focal point to their attack who takes penalties and scores the majority of their goals. They also have great fixtures to target. Because of this and his season-long consistency, Ivan Toney is the best captain for Gameweek 27.
