The best captain in Gameweek 25

Last modified date

We find the best captain in Gameweek 25. With the help of the Fantasy Football Scout members area we can use the season ticker and underlying stats to find the best captaincy option for the Gameweek ahead.

Captaincy is one of the most important decisions a manager can make in fantasy football. Writing up a shortlist of options can be helpful but picking out the best captain in Gameweek 25 can be even more important for FPL managers.

Fixture ticker

Below you can see teams near the top with the easier fixtures, going all the way down the table to teams with the tougher fixtures. The season ticker can be very helpful. However, won’t always give us the full story on which players make the best captaincy options.

The options – Erling Haland

Manchester City play one fixture in Gameweek 25. Although that is the case they should not be underestimated when considering captaincy. In their last six matches amongst all teams they rank second for goals scored (16), third for attempts on goal (110), first for big chances total (31) and joint second for shots on target (40).

Bournemouth lay ahead for Manchester City. The Cherries have been very poor as of late. In fact in their last 10 matches in all competitions they have lost a huge seven times. They also rank amongst the four worst teams in the last six matches for shots in the box conceded (63), total shots conceded (100) and shots on target conceded (32).

One player who could take advantage of Bournemouth’s poor defensive stats is Erling Haaland (£12.2m). The striker has been brilliantly consistent this season. In addition, in the last six matches amongst all players he ranks second for goals scored (five) and first for big chances total (13).

Mohamed Salah

Liverpool rank second on the fixture ticker this week. Although the Reds have been inconsistent for most of the season, they are fully capable of scoring goals. They have shown exactly that in their last three matches in all competitions, scoring two goals in all of them.

They face Wolves and Crystal Palace in Gameweek 25. Although Wolves’ underlying defensive stats are average, Crystal Palace are struggling. In their last six matches they rank the joint third worst for goals conceded (10), the worst for shots in the box conceded (74), the worst for shots on target conceded (39) and the joint third worst for big chances conceded (18).

Penalty taker and main man Mohamed Salah (£12.7m) has been unreliable for large parts of the season but has banked two returns in his last two matches. The Egyptian also bagged a goal and an assist in his most recent Champions League game against Real Madrid.

Bukayo Saka

Arsenal rank top of the fixture ticker for Gameweek 25. The league leaders have been convincing all season, predominantly due to their frontline. Amongst all teams in the last six matches they rank joint third for goals scored (11), first for attempts on goal (124) and first for shots in the box (83).

They face Leicester and Everton in the round ahead. The foxes have been struggling to keep clean sheets lately. They also rank second worst for goals conceded (11) and joint fourth worst for big chances conceded (17). Everton are also struggling. The Toffees rank joint third worst for goals conceded (10) in the same six match period.

Bukayo Saka (£8.4m) is in great form. In his last six matches the midfielder has picked up returns in five of them. During that same period amongst all players in the league he also ranks joint second for attempts on goal (26) and joint third for shots in the box (19).

Who is the best captain in Gameweek 25?

Erling Haaland may be a fantastic option for the captaincy in any given Gameweek, but both of the other two options have a double Gameweek and that is too hard to ignore. The striker could do well but with an extra match each, Mohamed Salah and Bukayo Saka edge him.

Mohamed Salah is a great option for the captaincy. However, Liverpool’s inconsistencies and Salah’s recent underwhelming FPL output and underlying offensive data indicates Saka could be a better option. Even more so when we take into account that Arsenal’s recent attacking stats are better than Liverpool’s and Saka’s recent attacking data is better than Salah’s.

Bukayo Saka is the standout captaincy option for Gameweek 25.
