The best captain in Gameweek 22

Last modified date

We find the best captain in Gameweek 22. With the help of the Fantasy Football Scout members area we can use the season ticker and underlying stats to find the best captaincy option for the Gameweek ahead.

Captaincy is one of the most important decisions a manager can make in fantasy football. Writing up a shortlist of options can be helpful but picking out the best captain in Gameweek 22 can be even more important for FPL managers.

Fixture ticker

Below you can see teams near the top with the easier fixtures, going all the way down the table to teams with the tougher fixtures. The season ticker can be very helpful. However, won’t always give us the full story on which players make the best captaincy options.

The options – Erling Haaland

Manchester City may rank near the bottom of the fixture ticker this week, but there are a lot more factors to consider. The league holders have been maintaining great offensive stats this season. Amongst all teams they lead the way and rank first for goals scored, goals scored in the box, attempts on goal, big chances total and shots on target. This could indicate that Manchester City have the most reliable attack in the league.

Tottenham lay ahead for Manchester City in the round ahead. struggling defensively Tottenham have kept just two clean sheets in their last 10 matches. On top of this, amongst all teams in the last six games they rank they second worst for goals conceded (13) and the second worst for shots on target conceded (33). This plays into the hands of the Manchester City attackers and one player in particular.

Erling Haaland (£12.2m) has took both the Premier League and FPL by storm this season. The striker has netted an incredible 25 goals in 19 matches already. Combined with his three assists, Haaland totals 28 attacking returns. In the last six matches amongst all players he also ranks first for goals (seven), second for attempts on goal (23), first for attempts in the box (21) and first for big chances total.

Haaland may be playing just one match in Gameweek 22 but he has proved he can outperform those with two games, hitting a whopping seven double-digit returns already this campaign.

Marcus Rashford

Manchester United have put their poor run of form behind them this season. The Reds are now considered a team to fear. They may not be able to match Manchester City’s offensive stats, but their attack is building momentum. In fact, amongst all teams in the last six matches they rank fourth for goals (12) and joint first for shots on target (31).

With and exciting double Gameweek ahead, Manchester United are looking like one of the best teams to invest in. One of their opponents, Leeds are struggling. In fact, in the last six matches they rank the second worst for goals conceded (11), the second worst for shots in the box conceded (62) and the worst team in the league for big chances conceded (23).

Manchester United’s Marcus Rashford (£7.2m) is in some serious form. In his last 10 matches in all competitions the midfielder has created a fantastic eight goals and three assists with his stats as convincing. Amongst all players in the last six games he ranks second for goals scored (five), joint fourth for big chances total (six) and sixth for non penalty expected goal involvement (3.93).

Bruno Fernandes

Manchester United’s double Gameweek is too hard to ignore especially when their form and offensive stats have been on the up. In fact, in the last 10 matches in all competitions the Reds have won a massive eight of them. It is also worth considering that they scored two or more goals in eight as well. This could mean that investing in the Manchester United attack could have massive potential this week.

Crystal Palace is the other team they face in their double Gameweek. Similar to Leeds, results have not been great for Crystal Palace. This can be reinforced when looking at their recent defensive stats. In the last six matches amongst all teams Crystal Palace rank the worst for shots in the box conceded (68), the worst for attempts on goal conceded (34) and the joint second worst for chances conceded down their left flank (18).

Bruno Fernandes (£9.9m) has been in great form lately. The midfielder has picked up five returns in his last six matches, including a double-digit return. His stats are also impressive. In the same six matches amongst all players period he also ranks joint fourth for chances created (17), joint second for big chances created (six) and joint second for assists (three).

Conclusion

Haaland is a fantastic option in any given Gameweek but regardless of his stats and form, the potential a double Gameweek can have is too appealing. Fernandes has been great lately but Rashford’s scoring form and goal threat stats edge him to becoming the best captain in Gameweek 22 and even more so when considering his opponents poor defensive stats.
