The best captain in Gameweek 16

Last modified date

We try and find the best captain in Gameweek 16. With the help of the Fantasy Football Scout members area we can use the season ticker and underlying stats to find the best captaincy option for the Gameweek ahead.

Captaincy is one of the most important decisions a manager can make. Writing up a shortlist of options can be helpful. Picking out the best however, can be even more important for FPL managers.

Fixture ticker

Below you can see teams near the top with the easier fixtures, going all the way down the table to teams with the tougher fixtures. The season ticker can be very helpful. However, won’t always give us the full story on which players make the best captaincy options.

The options – Mohamed Salah

Liverpool may have started the season questionably, but they have been maintaining some fantastic offensive stats as of late. Amongst all teams in the league, they rank first for attempts on goal, first for attempts in the box, second for big chances total and second for shots on target. They face Southampton in Gameweek 16.

The Saints are now managerless after sacking their manager. They have really struggled to maintain any sort of consistency this season and that has really affected their efforts to keep clean sheets. In the last six matches amongst all teams in the league they are ranked the fourth worst for shots in the box conceded and the fourth worst for total shots conceded.

Although midfielder Mohamed Salah (£12.7m) has shown form that does not meet the high expectations of FPL managers, he is improving. Amongst all players in the league, the Egyptian ranks the fourth highest for total attempts on goal and the fourth highest for attempts in the box.

Erling Haaland

Like Liverpool, Man City are also very strong offensively. In fact, amongst all teams in the league they are ranked first for goals scored, second for attempts on goal, first for big chances total and first for shots on target. Man City face Brentford in Gameweek 16.

In their last six matches, amongst all team Brentford rank the joint second worst for goals conceded, the joint second worst for attempts conceded, and the worst for shots on target conceded. This highlights a poor run of games for Brentford defensively.

Erling Haaland (£12.2m) sits as the highest owned and highest scoring player in the game. As well as that, Haaland has also maintained some brilliant offensive stats. Amongst all players in the league, he is ranked first for goals, third for attempts on goal, joint first for attempts in the box and first for big chances total.

Conclusion

There are two standout captaincy options this week. Both Salah and Haaland could have plenty of potential. However, Man City and Haaland have proven reliable all season. For that reason, Haaland seems to be a better option. Although that is the case, if we get news Haaland may not start, Salah should take the armband.
