The best captain for Gameweek 31

Last modified date

We find the best captain for Gameweek 31. With the help of the Fantasy Football Scout members area we can use the season ticker and underlying stats to find the best captaincy option for the Gameweek ahead.

Captaincy is one of the most important decisions a manager can make in fantasy football. Writing up a shortlist of options can be helpful but picking out the best captain for Gameweek 31 can be even more important for FPL managers.

Fixture ticker

Below you can see teams near the top with the easier fixtures, going all the way down the table to teams with the tougher fixtures. The season ticker can be very helpful. However, won’t always give us the full story on which players make the best captaincy options.

The options – Harry Kane

Tottenham have shown inconsistencies all season. However, they are still up there with some of the best offensive teams in the league. When compared to every other team in the league they rank third best for goals scored (55) and third best for goals scored in the box. They also sit amongst the best teams for shots in the box (275) and shots on target (149).

Bournemouth lay ahead for Tottenham. The promoted side have been woeful defensively this season. An example of that is the fact they rank the worst for goals conceded (57), the worst for shots in the box conceded (326), second worst for shots on target conceded (157) and the worst for headed attempts on goal conceded (95).

One player who could fully take advantage of his opponents defence is Harry Kane (£11.7m). The penalty taker sits as the second highest scoring player in the game so far. Amongst all players this season he also ranks second for goals scored (23), first for attempts on goal (106), second for shots in the box (82) and second for headed attempts on goal (32).

Mohamed Salah

Similar to Tottenham, Liverpool have also been inconsistent. Although that is the case they have still been putting up some great offensive stats this campaign. Amongst all teams this season Liverpool rank fifth for goals scored (50), third for attempts on goal (456), joint first for shots in the box (332) and second for big chances total (93).

Liverpool face Leeds in Gameweek 31. The relegation battling side have been conceding some poor defensive stats this season. However, more recently that seems to have only worsened. In the last six games they rank second worst for goals conceded (15), third worst for shots in the box conceded (75) and second worst for big chances conceded (21).

The standout option from the Liverpool frontline is of course penalty taker Mohamed Salah (£12.8m). Although the Egyptian has had a underwhelming season compared to his usual standard, his recent data is impressive. In the last six Gameweeks amongst all players Salah sits joint third for attempts on goal (22), joint second for shots in the box (20) and joint second for big chances total (seven).

Erling Haaland

Manchester City are on a great run and will be hoping to close the gap on title rivals Arsenal this week. Their attacking data is some of the best in the league. This season they rank first for goals scored (75), first for goals scored in the box (43), second for attempts on goal (474), first for big chances total (106) and first for shots on target (167).

Leicester are Manchester City’s opponents this week. The Foxes are in a torrid run of form losing five of their last six matches, failing to keep a clean sheet in all of them. Leicester also sit as the third worst team in the league this season for goals conceded (52).

Erling Halaand (£12.2m) has stormed his first Premier League campaign. The Norwegian has racked up a whopping 30 goals and five assists. He also sits as the highest scoring and most owned player in the game. Amongst all players in the league he ranks first for goals, first for goas scored in the box (29), first for shots in the box (87) and first for big chances total (45).

Who is the best captain for Gameweek 31?

Whilst Liverpool and Tottenham have sustained some great attacking stats, it doesn’t take away the fact that they are unreliable. Both Harry Kane and Mohamed Salah are fantastic options. However, Manchester City’s reliable and consistent attacking stats make it easier to captain one of their players. Who better to select as captain than the most explosive player in the game, Erling Haaland.
