Should we wildcard in Gameweek 30?

Last modified date

With one of the most significant stages of the season edging closer, we answer one of the most important questions within the community, should we wildcard in Gameweek 30? We utilise some of the amazing tools over at Fantasy Football Scout to help us find a conclusion.

In the upcoming weeks managers will have to try to navigate blank and double Gameweeks. For some managers who still have the wildcard chip, they will be looking for a good time to activate it. So, should we wildcard in Gameweek 30?

Fixtures

As we can see below the fixtures are in difficulty order. The teams at the top have the easiest fixtures whilst the teams towards the bottom have the hardest fixtures. All of this could be detrimental in our decision on whether to use the wildcard.

Gameweek 32

Gameweek 32 will be a significant round. This week is a blank and the teams that will not have a match include Manchester United, Manchester City, Brighton and Chelsea. At first glance it could be an easy round to navigate. However all four teams hold high ownership within their assets.

Some of the most popular assets from each team are listed below:

  • Manchester United – Midfielder Marcus Rashford (£7.3m) and defender Luke Shaw (£5.2m)
  • Manchester City – Striker Erling Haaland (£12m) and midfielder Kevin De Bruyne (£12m).
  • Brighton – Midfielders Kaoru Mitoma (£5.6m), Solly March (£5.2m), Alexis Mac Allister (£5.5m) and defender Pervis Estupinan (£4.8m).
  • Chelsea – Defender Ben Chilwell (£6m) and goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga (£4.7m).

Along with others, the assets above will not have a fixture this week. Because of this it is vital we try to find a balanced squad to accommodate this, especially for managers who do not have their free hit chip remaining.

Gameweek 34

The fixture ticker also shows that teams have a double Gameweek in 34. Those teams include Liverpool, Fulham , Manchester United, West Ham, Manchester City and Brighton. Interestingly, as we have already seen, three of those teams that double in 34 blank in 32.

This emphasises the fact that finding a balanced squad to navigate between the blank and double could be key to any given managers success.

Gameweek 36 and 37

One of the two Gameweeks the fixture ticker has not clarified is Gameweek 36. There is very likely going to be a double Gameweek for teams including Brighton and Newcastle. The second Gameweek that the ticker does not clarify is Gameweek 37 where teams very likely to double include Brighton, Chelsea, Manchester City, Manchester United and Newcastle.

Conclusion

For managers without a free hit chip available, it could be worth while dead ending our teams into Gameweek 32 and then activating the wildcard for Gameweek 33 to attack the doubles and potential doubles after.

For managers with the free hit remaining, they could look to bring in the most optimal squad with the best players for the double Gameweeks ahead, without having to worry about the blank Gameweek in 32 and activate their wildcard this week.
