Key FPL injuries and bans: Game week 2

For FPL managers the availability of their players, both in terms of key FPL injuries and bans, is an important part of their Gameweek preparations. Knowing which players are available is key to FPL success, we take a run through key FPL injuries and bans after Gameweek 2.

With the new season here we as FPL managers will need to know key information going into Gameweek 2. Below is a run though of all the key FPL injuries and bans that we know so far ahead of the deadline.

Arsenal

Fabio Viera-Lack of match fitness Part of a group of four injured players who missed much of pre-season – three of which will hopefully “be available for selection” on 5/8.

Smith Rowe-Lack of match fitness Part of a group of four injured players who missed much of pre-season – three of which will hopefully “be available for selection” on 5/8.

Tomiyasu-Lack of match fitness Part of a group of four injured players who missed much of pre-season – three of which will hopefully “be available for selection” on 5/8.

Aston Villa

Keinan Davis- Lack of match fitness– Missed pre-season due to injury but will get minutes with the under-21s on 5/8

Bournemouth

David Brooks-Lack of match fitness– Working his way back to full fitness after successfully fighting cancer.

Crystal Palace

Jack Butland-Hand injury Sustained a hand injury on 19/7 and could be out for up to eight weeks.

Everton

Begovic-Lack of match fitness Has recovered from an ankle injury in pre-season and passed “just about fit” by his manager ahead of the Chelsea game on 6/8.

Seamus Coleman– Groin Injury Faces a race against time to be fit for the start of 2022/23 after undergoing groin surgery in pre-season.

Fulham

Joe Bryan-Hand injury It was reported on 1/8 that he had broken his hand.

Liverpool

Naby Keita-Illness Still suffering from illness as of 4/8 but expected back in training.

Man United

Pellestri-Ankle injury Suffered a twisted ankle in the friendly against Atletico Madrid on 30/7.

Newcastle

Fernandez-Calf injury Has missed all of pre-season with a calf issue but nearing a return as of 5/8.

Jamal Lewis- Groin Injury Has missed all of pre-season with a groin issue but nearing a return as of 5/8.

Jonjo Shelvey-Hamstring injury A big doubt for the start of 2022/23 as assessment continues on a hamstring injury picked up in pre-season.

Tottenham

Yves Bissouma- Hamstring injury A doubt for the Southampton game on 6/8 with a hamstring issue. His manager said on 4/8 that the club “don’t want to take any risks” but that further assessment will take place.

West Ham

Scamamacca-Lack of match fitness Lacking match fitness after his summer move to West Ham and unlikely to face Man City on 7/8.

Wolves

Nelson Semedo- Hamstring injury Suffered a hamstring injury in pre-season and will definitely miss the Community Shield on 30/7.

Potential FPL options with longer term key FPL injuries and bans

Aston Villa

Kourtney Hause-Knee injury Underwent knee surgery during pre-season and is still sidelined as of 5/8.

Brighton

Jacob Moder-Knee injury Suffered what seemed like a serious-looking knee injury in the match against Norwich on 2/4. An ACL rupture was soon confirmed and he faces a long spell on the side-lines.

Bournemouth

Ryan Fredericks- Lack of match fitness Looks set to miss the start of 2022/23 after suffering an injury in pre-season. Is at least back on the grass training.

Joe Rothwell-Thigh injury Ruled out of the start of 2022/23 with a quad injury. His manager hopes he’ll be back involved in the “coming weeks”.

Brentford

Kristoffer Ajer-Hamstring injury Set to miss the start of 2022/23 after undergoing hamstring surgery in pre-season.

Pinnock- Knee injury Looks set to miss the start of 2022/23 with a knee injury. His manager confirmed on 30/7 that he will miss the “first part of the season”.

Crystal Palace

James McArthur- Groin Injury It was reported on 30/7 that he is set for a spell on the sidelines with a recurrence of a groin issue.

Michael Olise-Foot injury Hasn’t recovered from a foot injury sustained at the end of 2021/22 and didn’t play a minute in pre-season. Still “a couple of weeks away” as of 4/8.

James Tomkins- Calf injury Ruled out of the Arsenal game on 5/8 with a calf issue.

Everton

Andre Gomez-Muscle injury Missed the entirety of pre-season but remains “a week or two away” from returning as of 4/8.

Calvert Lewin-Knee injury It was confirmed on 3/8 that he had sustained a knee injury in training and would miss the match against Chelsea on 6/8. Further assessment will be needed before a recovery date can be set but the club hope the issue isn’t serious.

Tom Davies- Muscle injury Picked up an injury in pre-season on 24/7. His manager said on 4/8 that he “should be training with us next week”.

Andros Townsend- Knee injury Picked up a knee injury in the FA Cup tie against Crystal Palace on 20/3. Ruled out for the rest of the season on 23/3 after ACL damage was diagnosed. Thought to be three months from a recovery as of 28/6.

Fulham

Chalobah-Knock Picked up an unspecified injury on 29/7 and is now a major doubt for the start of 2022/23

Harry Wilson-Knee injury Could be set for a long period on the sidelines with a knee injury picked up on 29/7.

Leeds

Luke Ayling- Knee injury Ruled out for two to four months on 20/5 after undergoing knee surgery. His manager said on 13/7 that he would miss the start of 2022/23 but could return to training in August.

Stuart Dallas- Leg injury Stretchered off with a season-ending leg injury on 30/4. A scan later revealed a femoral fracture and he will be side-lined for around six months.

Junior Firpo- Knock Ruled out for eight weeks with an unspecified injury after picking up a ‘knock’ in the friendly against Blackpool on 7/7.

Liam Cooper-Lack of match fitness Missed all of pre-season with an Achilles issue and ruled out of the Wolves game on 6/8. Doing individual work as of 4/8.

Forshaw-Knee injury Sustained a knee injury on 22/7. His manager is hopeful that he will return to training in the week beginning 8/8. 

Sinisterra-Hamstring injury Sustained a minor hamstring injury on 22/7. Hoping to return to training in the week beginning 8/8.

Leicester

Ryan Bertrand-Knee injury Twisted his knee in the warm-up before the Man City game on 26/12. Expected to be out for the season.

Harvey Barnes- Knee injury Ruled out for “a few weeks” on 5/8 after suffering knee injury in pre-season.

Ricardo Pereira-Achilles injury Sustained an Achilles issue in the match against Sevilla on 31/7 and his manager said the injury “doesn’t look so good”. Ruled out for up to six months on 5/8.

Liverpool

Diogo Jota-Hamstring injury Suffered a hamstring injury in pre-season and will definitely miss the Community Shield on 30/7.

Curtis Jones-Muscle injury Missed out in Liverpool’s final pre-season friendlies after “feeling” an injury in training. Ruled out of the Fulham game on 6/8 and no timeframe has been put on his return.

Kelleher-Muscle injury Picked up an injury while on international duty in June. Still two to three weeks away from a return as of 29/7.

Konate- Knock Picked up a knock in Liverpool’s pre-season friendly against Strasbourg on 31/7. Ruled out of the Fulham game on 6/8 and will be out for a “while”.

Chamberlain- Hamstring injury Sustained a serious hamstring injury on 15/7. No exact timeframe has been placed on his return but his manager said on 29/7 that it would “take longer” than a few weeks.

Tsimikas-Knock Ruled out of the Fulham game on 6/8 with an injury picked up in pre-season but aiming to return to training the following week.

Man City

Laporte- Knee injury Had knee surgery after the conclusion of the 2021/22 campaign and is expected to be missing until September.

Nottingham Forest

Omar Richards-Leg injury Ruled out for an estimated 10 weeks after suffering a hairline fracture to his leg.

Ryan Yates- Knock Picked up a knock in a pre-season friendly on 26/7 and won’t recover in time to face Newcastle on 6/8 despite not being too far away.

Southampton

Tino Livromento- Knee injury Taken off on a stretcher in the match against Brighton on 24/4 after suffering a serious knee injury. Likely to miss the rest of 2022.

Nathan Tella-Knee injury Ruled out for a “few weeks” by his manager on 27/7 after picking up a knee injury.

Walcott- Muscle injury Hasn’t featured in pre-season because of an unspecified injury. His manager said on 28/7 that his recovery will “take time”. Ruled out of the Spurs game on 6/8.

Tottenham

Oliver Skipp- Foot injury Sustained a fractured foot in pre-season. Will miss “two or three games” at the start of 2022/23.

West Ham

Ogbonna- Lack of match fitness Is playing for the under-23s in a bid to build up match fitness after a long lay-off. Still “three or four weeks away” from a first-team return as of 5/8.

Aguerd- Ankle injury Sustained an ankle injury against Rangers on 17/7 and has since undergone surgery.

Wolves

Chiquinho-Knee injury Injured in a pre-season friendly on 9/7. Is set for knee surgery and faces six months on the side-lines.

Jimenez-Knee injury Ruled out for “a number of weeks” on 27/7 after sustaining a knee injury and a minor adductor strain. Aiming to return to training in August.

Traore- Hamstring injury Sustained a hamstring injury in early-July. “Progressing well” as of 27/7. Aiming to return to training in August.

Key FPL Bans

Everton

Solomon Rondon-3 Match Ban Sent off for serious foul play in the match against Brentford on 15/5.

Leeds

Daniel James- 3 Match Ban Sent off for serious foul play on 11/5 and will be suspended for three matches.
