Key FPL injuries and bans for Gameweek 27

For FPL managers the availability of their players, both in terms of FPL injuries and bans, is an important part of their Gameweek preparations. Knowing which players are available is key to FPL success, we take a run through of the player circumstances ahead of the deadline.

With four matches still to be played in Gameweek 26 there is still a lot that can change in FPL. We round up the injuries and bans as a result of Gameweek 26 so far.

FPL INJURIES

Players to monitor ahead of Gameweek 27

Brentford

Zanka (Brentford)Lack of match fitness Has partly returned to team training as of 10/1 after two months out with a hamstring problem.

Ivan Toney (Brentford)Calf injury Missed the match against Man City on 9/2 with a minor calf problem and faces a “race against time” for Gameweek 26. .

Christian Eriksen (Brentford) Lack of match fitness Not match-fit enough to feature in mid-February games after only recently returning to training. Will instead play in friendlies on 14/2 and 21/2 and aim for a return against Newcastle on 26/2. 

Mathias Jenson (Brentford)Knock Limped off with what looked like a knee injury in the first half of Brentford’s game against Arsenal on 19/2.

Brighton

Adam Webster (Brighton)Groin Injury Missed the Burnley game on 19/2 with a groin issue but his manager hopes he’ll return for the following game against Aston Villa on 26/2

Burnley

Charlie Taylor (Burnley)Foot injury It was revealed on 17/1 that he picked up a knock on his foot that would require a scan. Has been sidelined since. Remains “touch and go” for the Spurs game on 5/2.

James Tarkowski (Burnley) Illness

Ashley Westwood (Burnley) – Illness

Chelsea

Mason Mount (Chelsea)Ankle injury Substituted with an ankle ligament injury in the Club World Cup final on 12/2.

Calum Hudson Odoi (Chelsea)Knock Missed the match against Crystal Palace on 19/2 after picking up an injury in training

Ceasar Azpilicueta (Chelsea) Knock Missed the match against Crystal Palace on 19/2 after picking up an injury in training

Crystal Palace

Vicente Guita (Crystal Palace) Knee injury Was substituted at half-time of the Chelsea game on 19/2 after “feeling something” in his knee.

Everton

Damarai Gray (Everton)Hip injury Substituted with a hip injury in the match against Newcastle on 8/2 but his manager doesn’t think it is a serious issue.

Leicester

James Justin (Leicester)Muscle injury Substituted with what looked to be a muscular injury on 13/2.

Harvey Barnes (Leicester)Hamstring injury Missed the match against Wolves on 20/02 because of a tight hamstring.

Leeds

Robin Koch (Leed)Head injury Suffered a head injury against Man Utd on 20/2 and was eventually substituted despite initially continuing.

Patrick Bamford (Leeds)Foot injury It was reported on 20/1 that he had picked up a foot injury. Ruled out of the Newcastle game on 22/1. His manager said that he has his “doubts” over whether he’ll be able to return against Aston Villa on 9/2.

Stuart Dallas (Leeds)Knock Substituted with an injury in the match against Everton on 12/2. His manager said afterwards that he was unsure of the severity of the issue.

Liverpool

Divock Origi (Liverpool) Lack of match fitness Back in full team training for the first time on 3/2 after the best part of two months out with a knee injury

Man City

Jack Grealish (Man City)Shin injury Missed the Norwich game on 12/2 with a recurrence of an old shin problem.

Man United

Eric Bailey (Man United)Ankle injury Returned from international duty with a swollen ankle and won’t feature in the FA Cup against Middlesbrough on 4/2. No update provided since.

Edinson Cavani (Man United) Groin Injury Missed the Southampton game on 12/2 after complaining of groin tightness. Won’t recover for the Brighton match on 15/2.

Newcastle

Allan Saint-Maximin (Newcastle) Knock Missed the West Ham game on 19/2 after picking up a knock.

Ryan Fraser (Newcastle)Hamstring injury Limped out of the West Ham game on 19/2. His manager was unsure whether it was a hamstring strain or mere fatigue/cramp

Norwich

Jacob Sorensen (Norwich)Knee injury Suffered a knee ligament injury against Watford on 21/1. His manager said on 4/2 that he “won’t be out for too much longer” and that he was already running on the grass.

Southampton

Nathan Redmond (Southampton)Ankle injury Missed the match against Spurs on 9/2 with an ankle knock.

Nathan Tella (Southampton)Groin Injury Missed the Man City game on 22/1 with a minor groin injury. His manager initially said that he would return after the winter break but he remains sidelined as of 3/2.

Spurs

Emerson Royal (Spurs) – Knock.

Oliver Skipp (Spurs)Groin Injury Ruled out of the FA Cup tie against Brighton on 5/2 with a groin injury.

Sergio Reguilon (Spurs) – Covid

Watford

Joao Pedro (Watford)Knock Missed the Aston Villa game on 19/2 with a minor knock. 

West Ham

Manuel Lanzini (West Ham)Knock Missed the Newcastle game on 19/2 after picking up a knock in training

Vladimir Coufal (West Ham) Hernia Missed the Newcastle game on 19/2 after experiencing problems with a hernia.

Wolves

WIlly Boly (Wolves)Lack of match fitness Doing individual training as of 24/1 after recovering from a calf complaint but won’t be ready to feature in the FA Cup on 5/2.

Potential FPL options with longer term injuries

Aston Villa

Marvelous Nakamba (Aston Villa)Knee injury Substituted in the game against Liverpool on 11/2 with a knee injury. Has since undergone surgery and will be out for 12-16 weeks.

Brentford

Ajer Kristoffer (Brentford) – Hamstring injury Missed the defeat to Burnley on 30/10 with a hamstring injury. His manager subsequently ruled him out for up to two months.

Brighton

Jeremy Sarmiento (Brighton) Hamstring injury Substituted with a hamstring injury in the match against West Ham on 1/12. Expected out for between three to four months.

Burnley

Gudmundsson (Burnley) Illness Ruled out for “weeks” on 3/2 after it was revealed he had surgery following appendicitis.

Matej Vydra (Burnley)Hernia Ruled out for “weeks” on 3/2 after undergoing hernia surgery.

Chelsea

Ben Chilwell (Chelsea) Knee injury Substituted in the Champions League win over Juventus on 23/11 with a partial injury to his ACL. Initially ruled out for six weeks on 26/11 but it later transpired that he would require surgery and miss the rest of 2021/22

Reece James (Chelsea) – Limped off with a hamstring injury against Brighton on 29/12 and was later sighted on crutches. Still awaiting the results of a scan as of 31/12.

Crystal Palace

Nathan Ferguson (Crystal Palace)Hamstring injury Ruled out of the Norwich game on 9/2 with a supposedly minor injury. A hamstring issue was since confirmed and he faces an absence of between five and six weeks.

Everton

Abdoulaye Doucoure (Everton) Everton confirmed on 19/10 Doucoure has suffered a foot injury and will be assessed to determine the period of absence.

Ben Godfrey (Everton)Hamstring injury

Yerry Mina (Everton)Thigh injury Sustained a thigh injury in the match against Newcastle on 8/2. Ruled out for 8-10 weeks.

Leicester

Wesley Fofana (Leicester)Leg injury Suffered a broken leg and ligament damage in the pre-season game against Villarreal on 4/8 and faced a lengthy spell on the sidelines. A return to training on 14/2 is expected and a playing return by the end of the month is hoped for.

Timothy Castange (Leicester) Thigh injury Missed the FA Cup match against Watford on 8/1 after suffering a thigh injury. Has since undergone surgery and is ruled out for 8-9 weeks.

Jamie Vardy (Leicester)Muscle injury “A bit sore” after appearing to pick up an injury in the match against Liverpool on 28/12.

Johnny Evans (Leicester)Hamstring injury Sustained a hamstring injury in the match against Newcastle on 12/12 and has been sidelined since. Underwent surgery and was ruled out until April on 7/1. About six weeks away from a return as of 4/2.

Leeds

Kalvin Phillips (Leeds)Hamstring injury Substituted in the match against Brentford on 5/12 with a hamstring injury and has been sidelined since. Ruled out until March on 31/12.

Liverpool

Diogo Jota (Liverpool)Ankle injury Substituted with a swollen ankle in the Champions League win over Inter on 16/2 and was since discovered to have damaged ligaments. Will miss the Norwich game on 19/2 but needs further assessment. His manager said the recovery could “go really quick [or] the other way around”.

Roberto Firmino (Liverpool)Muscle injury Missed the Norwich game on 19/2 with a muscle problem. His manager said afterwards that further assessment would be needed but added that he would not be fit to face Leeds on 23/2

Man City

Jesus (Man City)Muscle injury His manager reported on 4/2 that he had returned from international duty with Brazil with “a little niggle”.

Newcastle

Matt Ritchie (Newcastle)Knee injury Was assessed for a “knee problem” ahead of the Leeds game on 22/1 and missed out. His manager said on 7/2 that he would be out “longer term”.

Callum Wilson (Newcastle)Muscle injury Substituted with a muscle injury in the match against Man Utd on 27/12. His manager thinks the issue might be serious.

Kieran Trippier (Newcastle)Foot injury Substituted with a foot injury against Aston Villa on 13/2. A scan revealed a fracture of the fifth metatarsal bone in his left foot and he has undergone surgery. Aiming to return before the end of the season.

Norwich

Tim Krul (Norwich)Shoulder injury Sustained a shoulder problem in the match against Everton on 15/1 and has been sidelined since. Doing some ball work as of 18/2 but still “a few weeks away”.

West Ham

Angelo Ogbonna (West Ham) – Knee injury Taken off against Liverpool on 7/11 after needing stitches to an eye wound but his manager also revealed after full-time that he had taken a knock. A scan later revealed that he had suffered an ACL injury and that he would be out or a lengthy period of time.

INELIGIBLE

Arsenal, Liverpool and Chelsea will all blank in Gameweek 27.

BANS

There are currently no players banned from appearing in Gameweek 27.
