Injuries and Bans ahead of Gameweek 16

For Fantasy Premier League (FPL) managers, the availability of their players both in terms of injuries as well as bans is an important part of their Gameweek preparations.

Whilst Gameweek 15 hasn’t quite finished with the Monday Night Football between Arsenal and Everton to come, here is a round-up of what we know so far in terms of injuries and bans.

INJURIES

Players to monitor ahead of Gameweek 16

Danny Ings (Aston Villa)Muscle injury Ruled out of the Man City game on 1/12 with the recurrence of a muscle problem. Was given “every chance” to face Leicester on 5/12 but missed out.

Ivan Toney (Brentford)Illness Missed the Leeds game on 5/12 after testing positive for Covid-19.

Leandro Trossard (Brighton)Arm injury Stretchered off in the match against Southampton on 4/12 with an elbow injury but his manager said afterwards that the issue is “not as bad as first thought”

Joel Veltman (Brighton)Facial Injury Suffered a blow to the nose in the match against Southampton on 4/12 and had to be replaced.

Adam Webster (Brighton) – Substituted with a muscle injury in the match against West Ham on 1/12. Ruled out of the Southampton game on 4/12 as assessment continues on the full extent of his problem.

Ben Mee (Burnley)Shoulder injury Missed the match against Newcastle on 4/12 with a shoulder problem.

Maxwell Cornet (Burnley)Thigh injury Suffered a thigh strain in the match against Newcastle on 4/12 and will be assessed.

N’Golo Kante (Chelsea)Knee injury Substituted in the Champions League win over Juventus on 23/11 after twisting his knee. Initially ruled out for “days” or one week but his manager said on 4/12 that he wasn’t sure when he’d back.

Marcos Alonso (Chelsea)Back injury Substituted in the match against West Ham on 4/12 with back pain.

Kai Havertz (Chelsea)Knock Substituted in the match against West Ham on 4/12 after a heavy tackle. His manager said afterwards that he has “huge pain”.

Liam Cooper (Leeds)Hamstring injury Substituted in the match against Brentford on 5/12 but his manager does not know the extent of the problem.

Kalvin Phillips (Leeds)Knock Substituted in the match against Brentford on 5/12 but his manager does not know the extent of the problem.

Pascal Struijk (Leeds)Knock Took a knock to his hip in the match against Crystal Palace on 30/11. Was expected to face Brentford on 5/12 but “still finishing up” his recovery.

Youri Tielemans (Leicester)Lack of match fitness Back in training after recovering from a calf injury picked up on 7/11. 

Kasper Schmeichel (Leicester)Hand injury Picked up a thumb injury against Aston Villa on 5/12 and is set for an X-ray

Jesse Lingard (Man United)Knock Missed the match against Crystal Palace on 5/12 after “feeling pain” in training.

Anthony Martial (Man United)Knock Missed the match against Crystal Palace on 5/12 after “feeling pain” in training.

Sergio Reguilon (Spurs) Muscle injury Substituted in the match against Norwich on 5/12 but neither player nor manager thinks the issue is serious.

Mathias Normann (Norwich) – Has been sidelined with a recurrence of a pelvic injury in the match against Wolves on 27/11. Has been sidelined since but has had injections in the affected area and could be back for the Manchester United game on 11/12

Aaron Cresswell (West Ham) – Withdrawn early with a back injury during the match against Man City 28/11 and missed Gameweek 14

Potential FPL options with longer term injuries

Granit Xhaka (Arsenal) – Knee ligament damage picked up against Spurs (26th Sept), out for three months

David Raya (Brentford) – Ruled out for four to five months on 26/10 after sustaining a serious ligament injury in his left knee.

Jeremy Sarmiento (Brighton) Hamstring injury Substituted with a hamstring injury in the match against West Ham on 1/12. Expected out for between three to four months.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin (Everton) – Back in training following a muscle injury, still a “little way away”

Abdoulaye Doucoure (Everton) Everton confirmed on 19/10 Doucoure has suffered a foot injury and will be assessed to determine the period of absence.

Demari Gray (Everton) – Muscle injury Will be assessed for a muscle injury picked up in the match against Manchester City on 21/11.

James Justin (Leicester) – ACL injury from the 2020/21 season

Wesley Fofana (Leicester) – Broken leg in pre-season

Harvey Elliot (Liverpool) – Serious ankle injury vs Leeds (12th Sept) which required surgery

Ferran Torres (Man City) – Fractured foot, ruled out for two-to-three months from 15th Oct

Raphael Varane (Man United) – Ruled out on 12th Oct for a few weeks with a thigh injury

Jack Stephens (Southampton) – Picked up a knee injury on 18th Sept. Ruled out for 10-12 weeks

Christian Kabasele (Watford) – Out for more than three weeks (7th Oct) due to a hamstring injury

Ben Foster (Watford) – Groin injury likely out until the new year at least.

Johnny (Wolves) – ACL injury from the 2020/21 season, on course for “a return in the new year”

Pedro Neto (Wolves) – Knee injury from 2020/21, due to have a specialist review in October but no further timeframe
