Gameweek 3: Best record against opposition

Last modified date

We take a look at players who have the best record against their opposition. Using the Fantasy Football Scout members area we check out players who have played well against their opponents historically. Gameweek 3 will be our focus as the round ahead edges closer.

With gameweek 3 coming thick and fast it could be handy for FPL managers to know which players perform well against particular opponents. This could be an added factor when making transfers or even our captaincy decision.

Danny Ings v Crystal Palace

£7m striker Danny Ings appeared in the gameweek 2 edition for his previous efforts against Everton. His success against the toffees was repeated when he scored a goal and took six points away from the game. It’s Crystal Palace up next for the forward.

In the previous seven matches where Ings played more than 45 minutes against his gameweek 3 opponents he really impressed. He managed four returns in that same period with one double digit haul of 13 points.

Mason Mount v Leeds

The £8m Chelsea midfielder has had a sketchy start to the season in terms of performance and FPL points so far. With back to back blanks many in the community are considering giving him the boot from their teams.

Leeds were one of the worst defences last season and they have failed to keep a clean sheet in the two matches they have played this season. As you can see below in the four matches Mount has played against Leeds he’s had some joy.

The Chelsea attacker hit two goals and two assists in his last four matches against his gameweek 3 opponents. With a total of 30 points against Leeds it means Mount averaged 7.5 points. Owners may want to hold onto him with that in mind.

James Maddison v Leicester

£8m foxes man James Maaddison has started the season well. Many managers chose to exclude his selection in their teams due to tough fixtures. 12 points so far consisting of a goal and an assist shows the fixtures haven’t hindered him.

Southampton come into gameweek 3 with six goals already conceded against a side who have managed to net two goals in each of their first two fixtures. In his eight head to head matches against the Saints Maddison returned in half.

Interestingly in his last two matches against Southampton the midfielder hit back to back double digit hauls of 10 and 13 points. With four goals and an assist and one of the best records against his gameweek 3 opponents he could be a great option.

Salah v Man United

It could be difficult to exclude Salah from any edition of this. His incredible consistency indicates no team is safe when they come up against the Liverpool midfielder. With captaincy wide open many FPL managers could flock to the ever reliable Salah.

Man United were dismantled by Brentford in gameweek 2. If Man United perform the way they did last gameweek then they could be in trouble. Historically Salah shows ok form against the reds with four returns in nine matches.

However looking at the most recent matches Salah hit a massive 60 points in his last five head to heads. With an average of 12 points per match in that same five match period and one of the best record against Man United the Egyptian king could be a big captaincy option.

Kevin De Bruyne v Newcastle

In the 10 matches Kevin De Bruyne has played against Newcastle he returned in six of them. This means that Bruyne has a head to head attacking return rate of 60% against his gameweek 3 opponent.

The midfielder out performed well captained Haaland in game week 2. His assist and goal contributed towards his huge 14 point haul. With great form and one of the best records against his opponent Kevin De Bruyne could have a great gameweek 3.
