Gameweek 22 best free hit team

With a new Gameweek upon us we take a look at the free hit chip. Using the Fantasy Football Scout members area we can utilise the season ticker and underlying stats to determine the Gameweek 22 best free hit team.

The free hit chip in FPL allows managers, within the same budget and formational limits, to select a team for one particular Gameweek. Managers can attack any given Gameweek with the free hit whether that be to utilise a good set of fixtures, in-form teams or players or a mixture of it all. However, Experienced FPL managers usually tend to use the chip in blank Gameweeks.

Who has the best fixtures?

Man United and Leeds rank first and second on the fixture ticker, both of whom also have double Gameweeks in the round ahead. Brighton, Chelsea and Brentford also make the top five teams with the easiest fixtures in Gameweek 22.

Who has the worst fixtures?

Tottenham, Wolves, Man City, Fulham and Everton all make up the bottom five teams with the toughest fixtures.

Goalkeepers

Chelsea offer up a fantastically priced first team goalkeeper in Kepa Arrizabalaga (£4.6m). The Blues have kept two back-to-back clean sheets now and can hopefully take that defensive confidence into a home match against Fulham.

Leicester’s Danny Ward (£4m) makes a solid backup option and will only play in the unlikely event that Kepa fails to feature.

Defenders

Manchester United have a great double Gameweek ahead so investing in their defence could be wise. Luke Shaw (£5.2m) is ahead of his defensive teammates in terms of expected goal involvement this season and is the standout option.

The Leeds defence may not be the most appealing in the league but the double Gameweek adds a lot of potential. Luke Ayling (£4.5m) also leads his defensive colleagues in terms of expected goal involvement this season.

Newcastle have the best defence in the league this campaign and Kieran Trippier (£6.1m) sits as the highest scoring defender in the game. Trippier also maintains some of the best distribution stats in the league, adding to his potential.

Arsenal’s Ben White (£4.7m) and Wolves’s Hugo Bueno (£3.9m) make the substitute bench and it is likely both will be unused.

Midfielders

Man United face Crystal Palace and Leeds in their double Gameweek. Both of whom are ranked the worst two teams in the league for shots in the box in the last six matches. For that reason Marcus Rashford (£7.2m) could be an absolute must going into the new round, especially because he has bagged nine goals and two assists in his last 10 matches in all competitions.

The Man United attack is in form and that can be seen by the fact they rank first for shots on target in the last six matches. Because of that, doubling up on the frontline could be wise. Bruno Fernandes (£9.9m) has created more chances and big chances than any other midfielder in the last six matches.

Brighton face one of the worst defences in the league next in Bournemouth. The in-form Kaoru Mitoma (£5.1m) is the standout attacker with his four goals and one assist in his last six games. No midfielder has scored more goals than Rodrigo (£6.4m) this season. The Leeds midfielder also faces a double Gameweek ahead.

Arsenal have been one of the best attacks in the league this season and a large contributor towards that is Bukayo Saka (£8.2m). The winger has picked up seven goals and seven assists already and with a fixture against Everton next up, could easily extend that.

Forwards

Everton rank the third worst team in the league in the last six matches for attempts on target conceded. For that reason, managers could back the in-form Eddie Nketiah (£6.7m) who has bagged three returns in his last five matches.

Manchester City’s Erling Haaland (£12.2m) is an absolute must going into any given Gameweek and because they face Tottenham next, a team conceding some poor defensive stats in the last six, only makes him even more essential.

Leeds striker Wilfried Gnonto (£5m) makes a great first sub whilst also enabling money elsewhere within the team.
