Gameweek 2: Best record against opposition
We take a look at players who have the best record against their opposition. Using the Fantasy Football Scout members area we check out players who have played well against their opponents historically. Gameweek 2 will be our focus as the round ahead edges closer.
With gameweek 2 coming thick and fast it could be handy for FPL managers to know which players perform well against particular opponents. This could be an added factor when making transfers or even our captaincy decision.
Jamie Vardy v Arsenal
Leicester striker £9.5m Vardy has a great record against the ‘big six’. However Arsenal in particular looks to be one of those he favours the most. In the 14 matches where Vardy featured against Arsenal the penalty taker managed an amazing eight returns.
That meant that the veteran forward returned in more matches than he didn’t. In addition four of those eight returns were double digit hauls. With an assist in gameweek 1 FPL managers could even be tempted to bring the Leicester man in.
Danny Ings v Everton
£7m Aston Villa forward comes up against Everton in gameweek 2. In the matches Ings has played more than 20 minutes in against the toffees (11) he brought in seven returns. An incredible versus record consisting of five goals, three assists one double digit haul.
FPL managers may be put off after Aston Villa’s gameweek 1 loss against Bournemouth but striker Danny Ings has an overall fantastic record against his gameweek 2 opponent.
Joao Cancelo v Bournemouth
Man City face newly promoted side Bournemouth in gameweek 2. £7m defender Cancelo has a great record against promoted teams in FPL. The Portuguese attacking full-back has played eight matches against promoted teams racking up five FPL returns.
In addition to that two of those returns were double digit hauls of 12 and 17. The heavily owned defender is already popular within the FPL community but could he be worth the captaincy armband? Maybe.
Salah v Crystal Palace
Salah reigns as one of the most successful assets of all time so it’s likely he has a great record against most teams. However Crystal Palace seems to be a team he really likes to play against. With many thinking about captaining Haaland in gameweek 2 its worth highlighting Salah’s record here.
In his last seven matches against Palace the Egyptian has managed an incredible seven straight returns. Those FPL points consisted of four double digit hauls as you can see above. On an amazing run of matches versus his gameweek 2 opponent many will have to really think about captaincy this week.
Bruno Fernandes v Brentford
At only £10m this season attacking midfielder Bruno took a big price drop. The Man United man lost the form of the previous season where he topped every player in the game for most FPL points. Man United come up against Brentford in gameweek 2 who put up a defiant performance against Leicester in gameweek 1.
Although Brentford made a comeback in the opening week they still conceded two goals, Brentford look to concede FPL points to central attacking hub players often. In their first match of the season they allowed Maddison to secure his third back to back return against them.
With Bruno having similar attributes and positioning he could have great potential. It also helps that the Portuguese has already managed back to back FPL returns of eight and nine points against Brentford.
