Gameweek 1 Team 2019/20
After a busy pre-season, the Gameweek 1 team is finally locked in for the Fantasy Premier League 2019/20 season.
Three premium attakers have been squeezed into the Gameweek 1 team: Mohammed Salah, Raheem Sterling and Harry Kane!

The Gameweek 1 squad focuses on the opening 4 gameweeks. Following tradition, it’s a budget set and forget keeper in the sticks: Nick Pope (4.5) starts as our Gameweek 1 team goalkeeper, with a great record in the league. The budget saving, allows for a quadruple of premium defenders, as we aim for a 4-4-2 formation heading into Gameweek 1 of the 2019/20 Fantasy Premier League season. Doubling up on the Liverpool defence for another great season of clean sheets, goals and assists seemed like a no brainier, with Andy Robertson (7.0) and Virgil Van Dijk (6.5) looking great value, despite price increases. Oleksandr Zinchenko (5.5) is a slightly risky entry into a solid Manchester City defence, keeping over 20 clean sheets last season, with some added assist potential. Lucas Digne (6.0) completes the quartet: the Everton defence finished last season strongly and the left-back is more than capable of attacking returns from set pieces.Attack
Tapping into the Liverpool and Manchester City attacks for the opening weeks was important to me, providing excellent captaincy options for their initial games. From Liverpool, it was an easy decision to select Mo Salah (12.5). Given that the Egyptian was the best FPL player in the last two seasons, plus potentially on penalties, it makes sense. De Bruyne is a popular pick among the community, but Sergio Aguero (12.0) and Raheem Sterling (12.0) are more reliable, particularly when considering captaincy. Sterling gets the selection, he could run Salah close this season. With these premium options locked in, there’s little flexibility in the budget for England captain Harry Kane (12.0). His ownership swung things in his favour close to the Gameweek 1 deadline, as VAR ensues in the Premier League. With premium selections restricting the budget, Josh King (6.5) looks great value at 1.5 million less than Callum Wilson. Leicester are building something special this season, so I wanted to tap into their attack. Ayoze Perez (6.5) appealed in this range as a potential out of position prospect. Finally, budget constraints confined me to a £5.0 million midfielder, and it’s Oliver Norwood (5.0) who is the punt for now. He’s on set pieces and potentially penalties for the Blades, with short term fixtures looking reasonable.Bench
It’s a bare bones bench, as I spend the minimum 4.0 on the defensive fillers and 4.5 on the attackers. Stekelenburg (4.0) is a pure bench fodder pick. Lundstram (4.0) has seen significant minutes in pre-season and has played out of position. Dendoncker (4.5) looks to have the most promise of all the 4.5 million midfielders right now. Greenwood (4.5) fills the final forward slot, with an outside chance of minutes, to use the 100 million pound budget.Gameweek 1 Team
