FPL top picks for Gameweek 37

Last modified date

Utilising the fixture ticker and underlying stats from the Fantasy Football Scout members area, we pick out some of the FPL top picks for Gameweek 37. Considering team and player form, fixture difficulty and stats will help us shortlist some of the best assets for the round ahead.

Looking at the FPL top picks for Gameweek 37 can be extremely useful to managers in their quest for success. Knowing which players to target for the round ahead can help with important decisions like transfers and captaincy.

Fixtures

Below we can see the teams at the top with the easiest fixtures all of the way down to the bottom to teams with the toughest fixtures. We can also see that Brighton, Chelsea, Manchester City and Manchester United have a double Gameweek in the round ahead.

Goalkeepers – David De Gea

Manchester United sit first on the fixture ticker this week. They have a double Gameweek which suggests investing in their assets could be very beneficial. Defensively, the Reds are one of the best in the division, keeping more clean sheets than any other team in the league (15).

One of the opponents they face, Chelsea, have been extremely poor offensively. In fact, the Blues have scored seven goals in their last 10 matches, failing to score in six of the same games. Taking all of this into account, investing in David De Gea (£5m) could be a wise move and for that makes the top picks for Gameweek 37.

Ederson

Manchester City also sit close to the top of the fixture ticker. They have a double Gameweek against Chelsea and Brighton in the round ahead. Defensively, Manchester City are sustaining some of the best stats in the league this season.

Although the above has not always translated into clean sheets, one good game for the man between the sticks Ederson (£5.4m) would almost guarantee a clean sheet. Ederson has two attempts to bank points and with the opponents coming up, he also has the potential to do well.

Jason Steele

Brighton have some of the best fixtures amongst all teams in the league this week. This is largely due to their double Gameweek. The defence has sustained some solid stats this season as a whole. In fact, amongst all teams in the league they rank in the best four teams in the league for shots in the box conceded (234), total attempts conceded (322), shots on target conceded (11) and big chances conceded (52).

Because of their impressive defensive data this season it could be a good idea to invest in their backline. The cheapest way into the defence is Jason Steele. He comes in at the fantastic price of £4m, which helps to enable funds elsewhere within the squad.

Defenders – Aaron Wan-Bissaka

We have already seen that Manchester United have a double Gameweek and that one of their opponents, Chelsea, have been struggling in front of goal. Their other opponent, Bournemouth, have shown also huge inconsistencies this season offensively.

Manchester United have very good defensive potential this week and another way into the defence could be full-back Aaron Wan Bissaka (£4.3m). Not only does he come in at a very enabling price-tag but he also edges all of his defensive teammates in the last six Gameweeks for non-penalty expected goal involvement (1.28).

Luke Shaw

Manchester United arguably have the best chance to keep a clean sheet than any other team in the league this week. The fact they lead the way in terms of clean sheets (15) reinforces the appeal of their defensive assets.

We already know the Reds face two poor offensive lines in the round ahead so whilst many look to the Manchester United attack, some could heavily invest in the backline. The safest way into the defence is of course Luke Shaw (£5.2m). Shaw sits as the highest scoring Manchester United defender in FPL, highlighting his reliability.

John Stones

To highlight the Manchester City defence lets take a look at their stats. This season when compared to every other team in the league they rank second best for goals conceded (31), the best for shots in the box conceded (161), the best for shots on target conceded (73) and the best for for big chances conceded (41).

The Manchester City defensive data indicates that it may be just a matter before they keep clean sheets. With Manchester City’s heavy schedule it could be worth selecting a player with assured minutes. That player could be John Stones (£5.6m). The centre-back has been playing in a midfield position, putting him much closer to goal. Stones also offers goal threat from set plays. Taking all of that into account, Stones makes the top picks for Gameweek 37.

Pervis Estupinan

Brighton have a double Gameweek this week and it could be difficult to avoid investing into their defence. One of the teams they face, Southampton, look dead-set to be relegated. Offensively, they also rank amongst the four worst teams in the league in the last six Gameweeks for data points like attempts on goal (57), shots in the box (39) and shots on target (21).

The standout option in the Brighton defence is Pervis Estupinan (£4.9m). The full-back has become an integral part of the managers starting 11, assuring his minutes moving forward. He also beats his defensive teammates for non-penalty expected goal involvement in the last six Gameweeks (1.15).

Trent Alexander-Arnold

Amongst all of the double Gameweek teams there is one or two single Gameweek teams worth dipping into in terms of defensive assets. One of those teams is Liverpool who play Aston Villa. Although they have shown signs of defensive inconsistency this campaign, the Reds have managed two back-to-back clean sheets in the league.

Although clean sheets are important for defenders, one player can offer much more than that. Trent Alexander-Arnold (£7.7m) is in the midst of a very strong returning run in FPL. In fact, in his last six matches, Trent has returned in all of them. If that wasn’t convincing enough, amongst all defenders in the last six Gameweeks he ranks first for big chances created (eight) and first for non-penalty expected goal involvement (3.29).

Midfielders – Marcus Rashford

Manchester United face two of the worst current defences in the league up next, Chelsea and Bournemouth. Because of this it could be absolutely vital to invest in their offensive line, especially when their maintaining some great attacking data themselves.

When compared to every other team in the league in the last six Gameweeks they rank second best for attempts on goal (117), third for shots in the box (74), fourth for big chances total (22) and joint second for shots on target (40). The standout attacking option from Manchester United is of course Marcus Rashford (£7.3m). The winger has bagged four returns in his last six matches including two double-digit hauls. Rashford is an easy addition to the top picks for Gameweek 37.

Bruno Fernandes

The Manchester United attack looks very appealing this week. One of their opponents, Bournemouth, this season rank the second worst team in the league for goals conceded (67), second worst for shots in the box conceded (372) and the worst for shots on target conceded (188).

Manchester United’s other opponent, Chelsea, have lost five of their last six matches in all competitions whilst also conceding two or more goals in four of the five same games. Another player who could target their weak defensive opponents is Bruno Fernandes (£9.4m). Not only does he take his sides penalties but no player has created more chances in the league this season than him (103). He also ranks second amongst all players for big chances created (29). Considering his upcoming opposition and distribution stats, Fernandes has to be considered amongst the top picks for Gameweek 37.

Riyad Mahrez

Manchester City have a great double Gameweek in the round ahead, especially from an offensive point of view. In terms of attacking data, Manchester City are up there. This season amongst all teams they rank first for goals scored (89), first for big chances total (125) and first for shots on target (202).

There is not telling how much any given Manchester City attacker will be rotated during their gruelling schedule ahead. However, one player who performs when he does play is Riyad Mahrez (£7.4m). The Algerian has picked up a return in all three of Manchester City’s last three league games, highlighting his output when playing.

Kevin De Bruyne

We have already seen that one of Manchester City’s upcoming opponents, Chelsea, have conceded two or more goals in five of their last matches in all competitions. Although their other opponent, Brighton, have been sustaining some great defensive stats, they have still failed to keep a clean sheet in four of their last six games.

Another player who has huge potential when playing is Kevin De Bruyne (£12.2m). The Belgian has managed four returns in five of his last starts for Manchester City, racking up two double-digit hauls in the same period, including a huge 19-point haul. Not only does De Bruyne take set pieces, giving him additional route to points but amongst all players this season he also sits third best for non-penalty expected goal involvement this season (19.56).

Alexis Mac Allister

Brighton have been fantastic this season and their assets have become some of the most popular in the game. They face Manchester City and Southampton in their double Gameweek. One of their opponents, Southampton, have been awful this season. Defensively the Saints have really struggled and an example of that is that they rank the second worst team in the league in the last six Gameweeks for goals conceded (17).

One player who looks like he could avoid rotation this week is Alexis Mac Allister (£5.6m). The midfielder takes his sides penalties, giving him an extra route to points. Mac Allister also edges his offensive teammates for non-penalty expected goal involvement in the last six Gameweeks (3.71). With multiple routes points, Alex Mac Allister walks into the top picks for Gameweek 37.

Kaoru Mitoma

To highlight Brighton’s attacking data this season, when compared to all teams in the league they rank in the best four teams for attempts on goal (539), big chances total (103), minutes per chances (5.9) and shots on target (198).

The Brighton attack has been impressive and because of that multiple options have become very appealing this campaign. Another great asset is Kaoru Mitoma (£5.6m). The Japanese international has bagged five returns in his last 10 league matches.

Erling Haaland

Manchester City’s fantastic campaign and relentless offensive stats have been largely due to one player. That player is Erling Haaland (£12.4m). The Norwegian has been the most consistent player all season and that can be reflected in the fact he sits as the highest scoring player in the game.

Haaland’s 259 points consist of a whopping 35 goals and seven assists from 32 matches. This record breaking feat has made him absolutely essential going into any given round and even more so for double Gameweeks. Do not go without Haaland.
