FPL Reactions to Gameweek 28 (Saturday)

Last modified date

So Gameweek 28 is underway. With seven matches already played, the FPL community has had a busy day of action. Here we round up the FPL reactions to Gameweek 28 so far.

On Saturday morning, Twitter was awash with FPL managers making last minute transfer decisions ahead of the deadline. Yesterday saw seven matches played and five of these were at 3pm. As a result, let’s look at how the FPL community reacted to the main talking points of the afternoon.

FPL Reactions: Early Raphinha letdown

So early kick-off featured the first Leeds match under new head coach Jesse Marsch. Many FPL managers had eyes on Raphinha, due to him having the second-most effective ownership (EO) within the top 10k.

Yet the Brazilian missed a huge chance and, as a result, Leeds’ domination somehow ended with a Leicester victory.

Team news landed at 2pm, headlined by starts for Reece James, Armando Broja and Christian Eriksen. However, much-selected Raul Jimenez was dropped again for Wolves, as Lucas Digne and Marcos Alonso didn’t make their squads at all. Additionally, places on the bench for Allan Saint-Maximin and Neal Maupay.

Naturally, those with Wolves defenders watched them go 2-0 down to Crystal Palace, with all the popular Southampton assets also two down at the break. Ollie Watkins scored the opener for Villa, with Philippe Coutinho assisting the second. A trio of half-time 2-0s saw Ryan Fraser inspire Newcastle’s strong start against Brighton.

FPL Reactions: Explosive second half

Then, things escalated. Reece James bagged a goal, assist and clean sheet as Chelsea won 4-0, matched by Villa thanks to hauls from Coutinho and Danny Ings. Newcastle held onto a 2-1 win, whilst Ivan Toney’s two penalties led to a hat-trick for Brentford at Norwich.

Hauls aplenty for the week’s popular picks such as James and Coutinho, although blanks for many more.

Finally, the day ended with a 12-point return from Trent Alexander-Arnold, assisting Sadio Mane’s goal in a 1-0 Liverpool win. On the other hand, Jarrod Bowen left the action after 53 minutes with a suspected injury.
