FPL Reactions to Gameweek 27 (Saturday)

Last modified date

So Gameweek 27 is underway. With seven matches already played, the FPL community has had a busy day of action. Here we round up the FPL reactions to Gameweek 27 so far.

On Friday evening, Twitter was awash with FPL managers making last minute transfer decisions ahead of the deadline. Saturday saw six matches played and four of these were at 3pm. As a result, let’s look at how the FPL community reacted to the main talking points of the afternoon.

FPL Reactions: Leeds pummeled

Last night, Southampton comfortably disposed of Norwich with a 2-0 win. Yet eyes of Free Hit managers quickly switched to Saturday lunchtime’s clash between Leeds and Tottenham. It didn’t take long for the win to be secured because Matt Doherty and Dejan Kulusevski put Spurs two up after 15 minutes. Harry Kane made it 3-0 before the half-hour mark, with the forward assisting Son Heung-min for a late fourth.

There were a few shocks when team news broke at 2pm. Man United put Jadon Sancho, Harry Maguire and Diogo Dalot on the bench and Crystal Palace overlooked Odsonne Edouard, plus Allan Saint-Maximin wasn’t passed fit for Newcastle.

There was a 30-minute delay to kick-off at Brighton v Aston Villa but Matty Cash scored a sweet strike to give Villa the lead. Newcastle stormed into a comfortable 2-0 lead following an early red card for Josh Dasilva. Burnley clean sheets were quickly lost because of Jeffrey Schlupp. However, Man United couldn’t break the first half deadlock against Watford.

FPL Reactions: Blanks and rotations

Early in the second half, Christian Eriksen made an emotional return to football just 259 days after suffering a cardiac arrest at Euro 2020. But the four games only brought two second half goals, as Ben Foster kept a clean sheet alongside blanks for Wout Weghorst, Bruno Fernandes and Cristiano Ronaldo.

In fact, the most noteworthy news was the latest edition of Pep Roulette, where popular punt Riyad Mahrez was named on the bench.

Furthermore, Man City struggled to find a way through Everton. Raheem Sterling blanked, Riyad Mahrez’s cameo led nowhere and it took a late Phil Foden goal to grab all three points.
