FPL players and international performances

Last modified date

The international break is here which means FPL is on hold. We take a look at FPL players and international performances. From International friendlies to the Nation League, we cover some FPL assets and how they did when playing for their national teams.

With FPL on a break, managers still have the opportunity to monitor some of their favourite FPL assets whilst they play for their countries. Keeping tabs on players minutes, injuries, defensive and offensive output could be beneficial to managers when making decisions for the gameweek ahead.

South Korea v Costa Rica

One of the standout matches of the break so far came between South Korea and Costa Rica. After a thrilling 2-2 draw we saw two FPL assets impress. £5.7m Wolves midfielder Hee-Chan Hwang managed to score a goal in the tie. The midfielder has failed to maintain consistent starts for Wolves this season.

The biggest highlight of the match was £11.7m midfielder Son Heung-Min’s goal. His direct free kick was lined up on the edge of the opponent’s goal and put away spectacularly. You can check out the goal in the link below. The Tottenham attacker scored three goals in his Gameweek 8 match against Leicester, and it seems he’s carried that form into his international game.

Brazil v Ghana

After a dominant display from World Cup favourites Brazil, we stay with Tottenham. The standout performance came from £8.5m forward Richarlison Andrade. The striker managed to score two goals with the help of super star Neymar.

After his recent transfer from Everton, managers questioned how much game time he would actually get. So far Richarlison has made just two starts in the Premier League, from his seven matches. After impressing on the international stage, it could be interesting to see if his number of starts improve.

Egypt v Niger

FPL mangers have questioned Mohamed Salah’s output recently. Returning in just three of his matches in the Premier League can be seen as disappointing to many, especially considering his large price-tag. The £12.9m Liverpool midfielder was back on the score sheet in their recent Champions League game against Ajax.

Salah has started his international break well. In a 3-0 victory for national team Egypt, the premium scored two goals, one being a penalty. Managers will be hoping he continues his scoring form upon his return. The Egyptian talisman faces Brighton in Gameweek 9.

Belgium v Wales

Belgium came into their Nations League game as firm favourites. Although Wales put up a valiant effort, the Belgians came away with the 2-1 win. Nottingham Forest assets £4.1m defender Neco Williams and £5.9m forward Brennan Johnson both started the match for Wales. Whilst Neco Williams failed to come away with anything significant, Johnson created an assist for the Wales goal.

The star of the show was none other than £12.3m Man City midfielder Kevin De Bruyne. After a fantastic display the premium attacker scored one goal and created the second with his assist. With five returns in seven matches, managers could do well to hold onto the Belgian.

What have we learned in FPL so far in 22/23? We answer that question right here.
