FPL Gossip 18th March 2022: Alexander-Arnold injury, European draws

A look at the latest rumours and bits of gossip that the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) community is talking about. Including today’s European draws and what that might mean for FPL.

Alexander-Arnold out for “weeks” with hamstring injury

In his Friday press conference, Jurgen Klopp confirmed that right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold will be out for an undefined number of weeks with a hamstring injury. As Liverpool blank this weekend and then there’s a two-week international break, it might not be an FPL problem. Certainly worth keeping an eye on, though.

Klopp also confirmed Salah is a slight doubt for their FA Cup match but doesn’t sound a problem for Gameweek 31.

“Trent [Alexander-Arnold] is out with a hamstring. He cannot be part of England as well – no good news, we will see how long that takes. Mo [Salah] felt his foot again a little bit after the game, so we have to see what we do with that. On top of that, some other bits and bobs and stuff like this so we have to wait.”

Champions League draw

Liverpool, Chelsea and Man City have been drawn against Benfica, Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid respectively in the Champions League quarter-finals.

Both legs will be played in the midweeks between Gameweeks 31, 32 and 33, so rotation could become an issue. Furthermore, all three sides face sides near the bottom in Gameweek 31, offering head coaches a chance at squad management.

Europa League and Europa Conference League draws

Meanwhile, the other European draws have paired West Ham against Lyon in the Europa League, alongside Leicester vs PSV Eindhoven in the Europa Conference League.

As before, these legs will be played between Gameweeks 31, 32 and 33 and – at such a late stage in the competition – you’d have to think managers will now prioritise them.

Those looking to soon purchase Harvey Barnes, James Maddison, Michail Antonio or Jarrod Bowen need to be careful.

Do you own Coutinho? We’ve taken a dive into the Villa midfielder to see if he is the best pick for current Gameweek 30 as well as beyond.
