FPL Gameweek 1 Updated Draft 2020/21

Last modified date

With fixtures in hand, it’s time to give the FPL Gameweek 1 Draft Team an update, to take advantage of favourable schedules.

The big news for fantasy managers is that we have a Blank Gameweek 1 for Manchester United, Manchester City, Burnley and Aston Villa.

FPL Gameweek 1 Team Updates

FPL Gameweek 1 First Draft Having seen the fixtures, I’ve made a number of changes from my opening draft. The big news is that Manchester City’s game against Aston Villa, and Burnley’s tie with Manchester United have both been postponed for Gameweek 1. That would leave me with just nine starters for the opening games. I no longer have interest in Michail Antonio, given West Ham’s awful start to the season. I also believe that there are better options at the back than Mat Ryan and Jan Bednarek, at least for the opening games. Southampton have an excellent opening run of games, so their assets are high on the agenda. Manchester United are blessed with a kind run after their opening blank, so there’s a desire to own one of their assets from the start. FPL Gameweek 1 Team Alex McCarthy comes in for Mat Ryan, with Orjan Nyland likely to start for Aston Villa in the opening gameweeks with Tom Heaton injured. Kyle Walker-Peters replaces Jan Bednarek as a more desirable option in the Saints backline. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang comes in for Kevin De Bruyne, with the switch back likely to happen in Gameweek 3 or 4. Phil Foden becomes Mason Mount, although remains more of a placeholder for the time being. There’s £0.5 million in the bank. Timo Werner was simply too expensive to squeeze in, so Danny Ings is given the nod up front. This means no premium forward and no easy way of bridging that gap. Antonio is downgraded to Alekander Mitrovic: he’s a great price given his form, fixtures and fantasy pedigree. There are no options on the bench for Gameweek 1, so it’s a gamble on Nathan Ferguson starting for Crystal Palace. Bruno Fernandes is ready for Gameweek 2: benching him in Gameweek 1 is preferred to spending 4 points on a transfer for Gameweek 2. The other notable omission in this draft is Matt Doherty in defence: he’s a great price and it would be nice to have another premium defender. The aim is to cover price points this season, switch between premium options where necessary and save the wildcard for as long as possible.
