Fantasy5 FFS Challenge: FPL Marc’s Week 9 Reveal

Last modified date

In mid-November, Fantasy Football Scout unveiled a nine-week battle that pits ten staff members and Pro Pundit experts against each other in Fantasy5. To determine who truly has the best eye for a Fantasy player, the FFS Challenge mini-league has taken place between Gameweeks 12 and 21.

A small prize is up for grabs but, more importantly, so is bragging rights. The challenge requires picking a player from each of the week’s five selected matches who you think will exceed their assigned ‘points target’ (par score). The more players that do so, the better.

Get yourself involved here at Fantasy5 for a chance to win a potential £10,000 prize. It is free and very simple to play, following the exact same scoring system as FPL, just without the bonus points. Full terms and conditions are here.

For each round, Fantasy Football Community will have an in-depth team reveal from one participant.

Week 9: FPL Marc

  • Brentford v Aston Villa
  • Everton v Brighton
  • Leeds v Burnley
  • Chelsea v Liverpool
  • Man United v Wolves

This is the ninth and final week of the challenge, with Fantasy5 staff taking a well-earned break that meant Gameweek 20 was skipped over. The turnaround was too quick anyway!

And I finally got one right. Two, in fact. Yes, after seven unproductive rounds, my calls of James Ward-Prowse and Kieran Tierney both successfully eclipsed their points target and Tariq Lamptey almost made it three. Not bad when one of the five matches was postponed. That has moved me off the bottom of our mini-league and the aim now is to finish on a relative high by landing in mid-table.

The problem with choosing strikers here is they mostly begin with a 6.5 target and – without the bonus points of FPL – exceeding this requires two attacking returns. Nevertheless, I still see Ollie Watkins as the best option here, on his return to former club Brentford. My next couple of picks are a bit left-field but they have low points targets that are easily beaten. Pascal Gross (5.5) has only started one of Brighton’s last five matches but I believe that, should he be rotated in, his share of set-piece duties could see him become this week’s Ward-Prowse.

Remember Stuart Dallas (4.5)? Last season he was listed as an FPL defender and became an out-of-position revelation, with eight goals and three assists. Now that he’s down as a midfielder, productivity has stopped. Well I back him to get an assist at home to Burnley.

Two heavyweights complete my five. Not really sure what to expect for Chelsea v Liverpool but Trent Alexander-Arnold has an appealing 6.5 target, knowing what he can provide. I’m not confident in either Man United’s defence or Wolves’ attack for their clash, so will put faith in Cristiano Ronaldo (6.5).

Good luck everyone!
