Double Gameweek 31: Best Burnley picks

Last modified date

One of two teams to play twice in Gameweek 31, let’s take another look at whether Burnley assets are worth owning.

Burnley fixtures

As the only side to play twice in both Gameweeks 31 and 33, Sean Dyche’s side come top of Fantasy Football Scout’s Fixture Ticker for the rest of this season.

Currently 19th in the league, Burnley are deep in a relegation fight but have at least two games-in-hand on three of the four sides above them. It’s a strong run of fixtures in their quest for survival, with a further trip to Aston Villa yet to be added.

Players of interest

FPL managers may see these fixtures as a very familiar trap. Heading into Double Gameweek 27, Burnley had a pair of wins and clean sheets versus Brighton and Tottenham. Therefore names like Wout Weghorst, Ben Mee, Connor Roberts and Nick Pope entered many teams. Only to see the Clarets draw at Crystal Palace, then lose the next three without scoring.

It may not have been as bad as with Emmanuel Dennis but scars still remain from the 676,000 managers who captained Weghorst that time. Both games totalled just three points – he’s a forward with only one goal from nine appearances.

Over the season, Burnley have had the fewest attempts, shots on target and penalty area touches. As the league’s second-lowest scorers with 22 goals, their strength lies elsewhere.

In the Premier League table, only one side below eighth-placed Wolves have conceded fewer goals than the Clarets’ 38. Their total for conceded shots on target is eighth-best, also keeping a respectable seven clean sheets.

FPL managers could certainly use their track record and double-double as a reason to purchase Roberts, Charlie Taylor or Ben Mee.

Community chatter

No matter who the team is, there’ll be interest in one that potentially has three doubles amongst the next four Gameweeks. Andy Martin could be tempted.

Additionally, ShivaFPL points out the late-season motivation that exists for sides at the top and bottom.

But FPL Olympian is staying strong, opting for quality over quantity.
