Double Gameweek 29 Announcement

Last modified date

Today the broadcaster picks for April have been announced. Alongside them the Premier League have announced the rescheduling of six of the postponed fixtures. This means a Double Gameweek 29. Here we look at what that means for FPL managers.

Ahead of today’s announcement there were seven fixtures which still needed to be rescheduled. The fixture between Newcastle and Brighton still needs to be rescheduled. However, the other six fixtures have now been slotted in to Gameweek 29. This will be the biggest double gameweek of the season so far and managers will want to maximise it’s potential.

The six new fixtures in Gameweek 29 are:

Tuesday 4 April

  • AFC Bournemouth v Brighton
  • Leeds v Nott’m Forest
  • Leicester v Aston Villa
  • Chelsea v Liverpool (Sky Sports)

Wednesday 5 April

  • Man Utd v Brentford
  • West Ham v Newcastle (Sky Sports)

What does this mean for FPL managers?

Double Gameweek 29 is now likely to be important for FPL managers. It is the biggest double gameweek that we have seen this season. The six additional fixtures mean that 12 teams will play twice.

  • Aston Villa – Chelsea (a) Leicester (a)
  • Bournemouth – Fulham (h) Brighton (h)
  • Brentford – Brighton (a) Man United (a)
  • Brighton – Brentford (h) Bournemouth (a)
  • Chelsea – Aston Villa (h) Liverpool (h)
  • Leeds – Arsenal (a) Nottingham Forest (h)
  • Leicester – Crystal Palace (a) Aston Villa (h)
  • Liverpool – Man City (a) Chelsea (a)
  • Man United – Newcastle (a) Brentford (h)
  • Newcastle – Man United (h) West Ham (a)
  • Nottingham Forest – Wolves (h) Leeds (a)
  • West Ham – Southampton (h) Newcastle (h)

This looks like a good opportunity for FPL managers to play their Free Hit chip if they still have it. However, Gameweek 28 could also be a big blank gameweek depending on the results of the FA Cup and therefore managers will need to be mindful of this. Some of the teams that double in Gameweek 29 could blank in Gameweek 28.

The following fixtures are at risk of being postponed in Gameweek 28, depending on the results of the FA Cup.

  • Brentford v Leicester
  • Liverpool v Fulham
  • Southampton v Spurs
  • Wolves v Leeds
  • Brighton v Man United
  • Man City v West Ham

Of the teams who are at risk of not playing in Gameweek 28, seven double in Gameweek 29. Managers will need a strategy for how to manage this. By playing a Free Hit chip in Gameweek 28 if the blank is large, managers could prioritse players who double with their transfers.
