Bundesliga Fantasy Matchday 20 expert picks and team

Last modified date

With a new round ahead, we look at the latest edition of Bundesliga Fantasy Matchday 20 expert picks and team. @FPLGunnersaurus (Jay) joins us to give his top picks for the Matchday ahead. In addition, he also shares his squad going into the new round with his general thoughts.

Twitter is full of the most experienced fantasy football players around. Those managers can be some of the best people to look to when trying to gain clarity when making their own decisions within their teams. Checking out the Matchday 20 expert picks and team can help for the round ahead.

Jonas Wind (FOR – 11m – 1% owned – VfL Wolfsburg)

Wolfsburg travel to Schalke in the standalone fixture on Friday night. It’s hard to overlook their Danish forward Jonas Wind. Although Wolfsburg have lost their last two games they did go on a run before that where they won six games in a row. In the last two games of that winning streak Wind scored three times and returned fantasy scores of 10 points and 16 points. For only the second time this season Schalke haven’t lost in consecutive matches. However on the flip side they haven’t won either seeing them draw 0-0 in both of those games.

Schalke still boast the league’s second worst home xGA (expected goals against). And you can bet that the Wolves are hungry for a victory. Another great Wolfsburg option who featured from the bench in Matchday 19 and could be back in the starting line up after injury is Lukas Nmecha (11.2m – 0% owned). Outside of Wolfsburg, target Bayern Munich forwards if your budget allows with a tasty home tie coming up in Matchday 20 ,more on Bayern later.

Vincenzo Grifo (MID – 15.9m – 31% owned – Sport-Club Freiburg)

Freiburg haven’t got out of the blocks as yet following the winter break. However a Matchday 20 tie at home to league strugglers Stuttgart could be just the tonic they need. Grifo has struggled after picking up an illness causing him to miss Matchday 16 entirely and have limited minutes in his last three games. What you can’t doubt with Grifo is his ability to haul big. Even more so when Freiburg are on song and with Stuttgart in the form they’re in (five without a win) there’s potential for the Italian to score big.

Grifo has already scored nine and assisted three times this season. In fantasy terms this has translated to six double-digit returns, four of which were 20 points or more. All of the premium midfield assets have great fixtures this weekend. But if you only have room to bring in one, look towards Grifo and has to be considered amongst the Matchday 20 expert picks.

Joao Cancelo (DEF – 12m ON SALE – 22% owned – FC Bayern München)

22% of Bundesliga Fantasy managers picked up the Bundesliga debutant for Matchday 19. They were handsomely rewarded with 14 points, seeing the on-loan Manchester City player notch his first Bundesliga assist. Many, like myself, predicted that the Portugal full-back would be on sale for Matchday 20. However as such forfeited any expected return on Sunday afternoon. Available now at an absolute bargain price of only 12m I fully expect his ownership to soar before the Matchday 20 transfer period ends.

Bayern Munich host a Bochum side who have lost nine of their ten away games this season. I fully expect a tenth away loss this weekend. Bayern put four past Wolfsburg with an expected goals ratio of only 0.54Xg and it’s scary to think how many they could score against 15th placed Bochum. If the goals go flying in you would expect that at some point Bayern’s surging full-backs are going to get in on the action. Cancelo is my MUST HAVE pick for the round ahead.

Rafał Gikiewicz (GK – 7.2m – 15% owned – FC Augsburg)

Some readers may recall that ahead of the restart Augsburg ‘keeper Gikiewicz was on my list to watch and target. This week he finds himself as my recommended goalkeeper transfer target for Matchday 20 with a nice run of upcoming fixtures.

Already with two clean sheets in the second half of the season his Augsburg team travel to Mainz up next and then face Hoffenheim (home), Hertha Berlin (away) and Werder Bremen (home). It’s Augsburg’s recent home form in particular that has improved, having picked up a couple of 1-0 wins and with two nice home games on the horizon Gikiewicz could be shutting out the opposition at the WWK arena.

Matchday 20 team reveal (subject to change)
