Looking at who were the best players from Group B Matchday 2 can help focus on the best performing assets. Whether the players returned points or not, it could be beneficial for fantasy managers to know which players looked bright and have the potential to return.
Sardar Azmoun
Iran faced a tough meeting against Wales in Matchday 2. After a tightly contested game, Iran came through and scored two goals in the latter stages of the game to take the three points. One of their players to stand out was Sardar Azmoun (£4.5m).
Azmoun showed fantastic positioning within the match, caused some major problems for the Wales defence and his perseverance to play through his injuries topped off a great all-around performance. Azmoun had two big chances to score but failed to convert them, although he didn’t score, Azmoun was dangerous.
Mehdi Taremi
Iran were excellent against Wales. The victors were unlucky not to kill the game early on. One of the key contributors to their game was Mehdi Taremi (£7m). Taremi was involved with two of the three key moments within the match.
Taremi drew the foul which saw Wales goalkeeper Wayne Hennessey sent off and also set up the second Iran goal with the assist. He was fantastic overall and despite creating one assist, he finished the game with a massive eight key passes.
Sergiño Dest
USA faced the mammoth task of beating England on Friday night. Although they were clear underdogs, the Americans were the better side in a match that ended in a 0-0 stalemate. USA looked bright for the majority of the game.
One of the key players involved for the USA was defender Sergiño Dest (£5m). Dest was superb and created moments of worry for England. His pace and will to get forward were apparent throughout the game and created two key passes which should have led to goals. Despite this he finished the match with just a clean sheet.
Weston Mckennie
USA should have struggled against England. One of the reasons they didn’t was down to the performance of Weston McKennie (£6m). The midfielder was in top form throughout the game. Mckennie snuffed out the creativity of England whenever he could.
Not only this but Mckennie was a huge ball of energy during the match. He also pressed his way to a perfect match. Mckennie was adamant to turn defence into counterattack and should have ended the game with an assist after his key pass.
