@FPLReaction' first FPL draft

Best players against their Gameweek 17 opposition

Last modified date

We take a look at some of the best players against their Gameweek 17 opposition. Using previous head-to-head records and underlying stats from the Fantasy Football Scout members area to help us pick out some great FPL picks for the round ahead.

Picking out the best players against their Gameweek 17 opposition could be helpful in making both transfer and captaincy decisions. The more information FPL managers have the better our decisions tend to be in terms of having successful assets in our fantasy teams.

Trent Alexander-Arnold v Aston Villa

Liverpool have been defensively ropey this season. In fact, the reds have kept just four clean sheets all season. Liverpool defender Trent Alexander-Arnold (£7.2m) has been Fantasy gold for a long time. The fullback managed a huge 208 points in FPL last season.

Unfortunately, Trent has struggled, with the Liverpool backline, to maintain his old form. He plays against Aston Villa next. As we can see, Trent’s record is very good against them, picking up a return in four of the six matches he has played. Those returns consist of one goal, one assist, two clean sheets and eight bonus points.

Mohamed Salah v Aston Villa

Liverpool, although nowhere near the form they used to sustain, are maintaining some great attacking stats lately. Mohamed Salah (£12.8m) has had take a step back in terms of captaincy, since the arrival of Man City striker Erling Haaland.

The Liverpool midfielder has been relentless for years but his output this season has been questioned. Although that is the case, Salah has still collected seven returns in the current campaign. We can see below that the Egyptian has returned in four of the six matches he has played against Aston Villa. Those returns consist of four goals, one assist and one bonus point.

Mason Mount v Bournemouth

Chelsea have been underwhelming this season. The blues can’t seem to string a good run of form together. One player who has been well below par is Mason Mount (£7.5m). The midfielder has bagged just three returns all season.

Chelsea do have a double Gameweek coming up and many managers will be looking to invest in Mount. His record against newly promoted sides is very interesting. In the last 17 matches against them, Mount has returned in 10 of them. Five of his ten returns have been double-digit hauls.

James Maddison v Newcastle

Leicester were poor at the start of the season and that bad run of form left them bottom of the Premier League. However, that form has been picking up and the foxes now sit 13th. Leicester man James Maddison (£8.2m) has proven to be a good FPL asset over the last couple of seasons and a huge factor in his sides improving form.

The midfielder has picked up eight returns in his current campaign, including two double-digit hauls. He faces Newcastle in Gameweek 17. In the seven matches Maddison has played against his upcoming opponent, he has bagged four returns, including three double-digit hauls.

Bruno Fernandes v Nottingham Forest

Manchester United have been improving and maintaining some great attacking stats lately. One player who has been a standout FPL asset in the past is Bruno Fernandes (£9.8m). The midfielder managed a huge 244 points in his 20/21 season.

Fernandes has failed to hit the heights of his greatest season and that has been evident for sometime. However, he faces Nottingham Forest in Gameweek 17 and has a great record against promoted sides. In the last 14 matches against promoted clubs, Fernandes has hit eight returns, including three double-digit hauls.
