Best picks from Man United for Double Gameweek 33

Last modified date

Man United play twice in Double Gameweek 33. So let’s assess their best FPL options ahead of matches against Norwich and Liverpool.

With one win from their last five matches, Man United are losing ground in the race to finish fourth. They end Gameweek 32 in seventh place, with a 1-0 loss to Everton making many FPL managers rethink whether they want to trust some of their players for Double Gameweek 33.

The second half of their double is Liverpool (a), so investments are primarily for the home match against Norwich. However, their last seven Old Trafford outings have seen points dropped versus Wolves, Southampton, Leicester and Watford.

Combine their poor, uninspiring form with facing a Norwich side fresh from a 2-0 win over Burnley. Suddenly, those using a Free Hit could start looking elsewhere.

Underlying Stats

Although Cristiano Ronaldo feels like old news in this FPL season, he has still found time to score 12 goals. Only Son Heung-min and the Liverpool trio of Mo Salah, Sadio Mane and Diogo Jota have more.

The table above shows attacking stats over each player’s last six appearances. Ronaldo comes second to Salah for goal attempts and is joint-top for shots on target and shots inside the box.

He offers a reliable option at a time when so few forwards are delivering, yet his premium price tag is likely too expensive to pair alongside Harry Kane.

Playmaker Bruno Fernandes also shows up in this graphic. Narrowly behind Ronaldo on 22 shots, he is narrowly ahead of Trent Alexander-Arnold as the most creative player this season. His 79 chances created and many shots showcases how pivotal he is to Man United’s success, despite having the same premium price tag problem.

Ownership for Double Gameweek

Using the top 10k ownership stats of LiveFPL, we can see how unpopular Man United assets currently are.

Some slight coverage of Fernandes and David de Gea but very little else. The overall ownerships are bigger – Ronaldo (18.7%), Fernandes (15.5%), Luke Shaw (11.4%), de Gea (10.6%) – but this just emphasises how many inactive teams currently exist. In fact, over 707,00 managers captained Ronaldo during their blank of Gameweek 30.

For Free Hit users, there are a couple of cheaper options that could deliver points whilst still allowing space for Salah and Kane. Anthony Elanga is a very cheap £4.8m midfielder that consistently gets minutes. He’s likely to start one of the two matches and has a pair of goals to his name.

Meanwhile, £73m signing Jadon Sancho has started eight of their last nine games, collecting two goals, three assists and seven bonus points in that time.

Anz also agrees that neither Fernandes nor Ronaldo hold much appeal.

Alternatively, FPL Raptor brings up a good point about a player’s FPL success being independent of their team actually winning the match.

Whilst FPL JJ is one of those showing interest in Sancho.
