Best picks from Brighton for Double Gameweek 29

Last modified date

Brighton play twice in Double Gameweek 29. So let’s assess their best FPL options ahead of matches against Liverpool and Tottenham.

The strong start of Brighton has aided them during their recent drop in form. Indeed, their only win over the past eight matches was against Watford, yet they are still 13th and with the same points as tenth-placed Crystal Palace. Neither form nor fixtures are on their side ahead of Double Gameweek 29, where the Seagulls play twice at home but against Liverpool and Spurs.

Defensive assets have been ditched for those of Wolves, Burnley, Southampton and Chelsea. Top-scoring midfielder Leandro Trossard is still bettered by 29 others, with main striker Neal Maupay prone to the occasional benching. So which Brighton players should be invested in for their double?

Underlying Stats

Provider of Lewis Dunk’s goal at Newcastle on Saturday, Pascal Gross has had a frustrating season of just three assists and playing only 52% of Brighton’s minutes. Yet it has been enough time to produce the seventh-most crosses throughout the campaign.

Here, his game time is severely lower than those around him but he still ranks 12th for chances created (39). Fellow midfielder Trossard has more shots and penalty box touches than Maupay but the latter is on eight goals. Five of the forward’s 26 squad appearances have been on the bench, such as during Saturday’s trip to Newcastle.

Therefore a more intriguing Brighton pick could be left wing-back Marc Cucurella.

He gets plenty of touches in the final third and has created the seventh-most chances of all defenders. Unfortunately, only one assist is to his name and opponents Liverpool and Spurs aren’t likely to provide clean sheet potential.

Ownership for Double Gameweek

The only Seagulls asset with over 10% ownership is goalkeeper Robert Sanchez and even that is lowering week-by-week. As Shane Duffy (8.8%) and Yves Bissouma (5.1%) are almost certainly in squads to be extremely cheap bench warmers, the only other player with over 4% ownership is Maupay.
