Best Aston Villa picks for Double Gameweek 28
Aston Villa showed fantastic new manager bounce when Steven Gerrard first took over at the club. However, their form in recent weeks has been mixed. Villa won their Gameweek 27 match, however in the three previous they picked up just one point. FPL managers will be hoping Villa build on their form in Gameweek 27 in Double Gameweek 28.
There are a wealth of potential FPL assets at Aston Villa this season. With good picks available in all positions on the pitch FPL managers should be able to target the Villa team ahead of the Double Gameweek. There is plenty of opportunity to use Villa assets as differentials as well as to double up on Villans, especially as some of them are great budget enablers as well as good FPL picks.
Underlying Stats
Forward Ollie Watkins returned his first Premier League goal since Gameweek 17 away at Brighton in Gameweek 17. He has had 43 attempts on goal so far this season, 39 of those coming from inside the box. He has also had ten big chances this season, ranking fifth amongst forwards across the division.
However, in the last six Gameweeks it is midfielder Jacob Ramsey who is top for goals scored for Villa with three. Ramsey has also registered an assist in that period. Only Philippe Coutinho has more attacking returns in this period than Ramsey with five, two goals and three assists.
Defender Matt Cash is third for attacking returns amongst Villa assets in the last six Gameweeks. The defender has registered 24 goal attempts so far this season, the seventh highest for defenders across the Premier League. Of these, 17 have come inside the box and only eight defenders have scored more goals than Cash’s two. He has also created 19 chances for his teammates. He has also been part of nine clean sheets so far this season and only ten defenders have kept more.
FPL managers usually like to invest in the wing backs. This means that central defensive options can be overlooked, which can be a mistake. Mings returned 11 points for his FPL owners in Gameweek 27 with a clean sheet, assist and all three bonus points.
However, Cash isn’t the only option for investment in the Villa defence. Tyrone Mings has had 16 goal attempts so far this season, five of which have been on target and eight have been headed chances. His three assists this campaign is seventh amongst defenders.
Ownership for Double Gameweek
Villa have only three players currently owned by over 10% of the game. Coutinho is owned by 20.4% id managers, Emi Martinez by 12.1% and Ollie Watkins by 10.2%. This means that FPL managers have a great opportunity to invest in some differential picks.
However, in the top 10k of managers Villa picks are more popular with four players owned by over 10% of the game.
However, even the most popular assets in the Villa team still have low enough ownership that if they return they will give FPL managers a green arrow. For managers who want to double up on Villa assets they differentiate their team even further.
Ramsey and Coutinho are the most heavily owned Villa assets in the top 10k of managers. However, only 378 managers own them both. By doubling up on the two Villa midfielders FPL managers could give their team the edge. This is especially true when we look at the reverse of the fixture against Leeds where Ramsey scored two goals and Coutinho returned a goal and two assists.
