Best picks from Arsenal for Double Gameweek 33

Last modified date

Arsenal play twice in Double Gameweek 33. So let’s assess their best FPL options ahead of matches against Southampton and Chelsea.

It feels like two minutes ago when Arsenal was the form team, looking nailed-on to secure fourth place. However, back-to-back defeats to Crystal Palace and Brighton have combined with Tottenham’s sequence of heavy wins to shift the momentum across north London.

Their Double Gameweek 33 is seen as the sixth-best among seven according to Fantasy Football Scout’s Fixture Ticker. Both away from home, they face the two competitors of Southampton 0-6 Chelsea.

Many FPL managers have a strong investment in Arsenal assets. According to LiveFPL, only Spurs and Liverpool assets have more combined top 10k ownership than the Gunners’ 208.01%.

Underlying Stats

Since Gameweek 16, midfielder Bukayo Saka has had the third-most goal attempts throughout the league and the second-most touches in the opposition penalty area. Seven goals and three assists have arrived in that 15-game period.

Additionally, team mate Alexandre Lacazette ranks highly for shots. Yet he has underachieved more than any other player in this time, with three goals far less than his expected goals (xG) tally of 8.10.

He has started every league match since Gameweek 15 but only has one goal from his last 11 outings. A constant source of frustration for FPL managers, it’ll be interesting to see how many persist with him until the end.

Ownership for Double Gameweek

Lacazette is the third most-owned forward amongst the top 100k, behind Harry Kane and Wout Weghorst. Furthermore, Saka is the third most-owned from all positions, featuring in 83.3% of top 100k squads. Many will keep the faith because of his generous £6.8m price tag, despite four blanks from five matches.

Arsenal’s defence has been heavily-owned for most of the season, having kept 13 clean sheets. Between Gameweeks 4 and 24, they had never gone more than two matches without one. Whether via Aaron Ramsdale (55.77% in the top 10k), Ben White (22.4%) or Gabriel (2.99%), it’s still wise to cover their back line. Although the season-ending injury of Kieran Tierney could be an excuse for owners to look elsewhere.

Elsewhere, 12% of the top 10k own Gabriel Martinelli. He currently costs £1.5m less than Saka but his late 2021 goal scoring exploits have seemingly dried up.

Free Hit users are looking for explosive differential options and FPL Teach Mode believes Martinelli could be one.

Especially if Lacazette misses out, going off recent training pictures. FPL Raptor is awaiting confirmation.
