Best midfielders for Gameweek 38

Last modified date

With the final round of Fantasy Premier League approaching we look at the best midfielders for Gameweek 38. Using the Fantasy Football Scout members area to utilise its fixture ticker and underlying stats, we provide plenty of midfielder options with the most potential.

There is just one final round for fantasy managers to try to gain rank or an edge of their mini-league rival. Because of this it could be vital to highlight some of the best midfielders for Gameweek 38 in the hope they will help us do exactly that.

Fixtures

Mohamed Salah

Liverpool have a mouth-watering match against Southampton in Gameweek 38. Mouth-watering because the Saints have conceded three or more goals in four of their last six games, so the Liverpool attackers could be up there with some of the most appealing assets to own this week.

The best option in the Liverpool attack is Mohamed Salah (£13.1m). The Egyptian penalty taker is in fantastic FPL form, bagging a return in each of his last five games, including three double-digit hauls. Amongst all midfielders in the last Gameweeks Salah also ranks joint first four goals (four), joint first for attempts on goal (22), first for shots in the box (19) and joint first for big chances total (six).

Marcus Rashford

Manchester United face Fulham in Gameweek 38. Although impressive this campaign, the Cottagers have conceded some concerning defensive data. A good example of that is amongst all teams in the league so far they rank the second worst for big chances conceded (105).

One of the best players to take advantage of Fulham’s big chance fragilities is Marcus Rashford (£7.2m). The midfielder has had a brilliant campaign banking 16 goals and five assists. Amongst all midfielders in the last six matches Rashford ranks first for attempts on goal (28), second for shots in the box (17) and first for big chances total.

Bruno Fernandes

Manchester United have maintained some great offensive data this season. More recently, the Reds have also put up some great attacking stats. In the last six matches when compared to every other team in the league they rank joint first for attempts on goal (113), joint third for shots in the box (61) and second for shots on target (36).

Another great way into the Manchester United offensive line is Bruno Fernandes (£9.5m). Not only does the midfielder take free kicks but he also takes his sides penalties, providing additional routes to points. To further highlight his potential, in the last six Gameweeks amongst midfielders Fernandes sits joint first for attempts on goal (22), first for chances created (24) and first for big chances created (eight).

Son Heung-min

Tottenham may be inconsistent but they sit amongst the best clubs in the division for goals scored this season. Leeds lay ahead for Spurs who are battling relegation and really struggling to sustain defensive stability.

To highlight how poor the Leeds defence has been this campaign they rank the worst for goals conceded (74) and the worst for big chances concede (108). One way to target this could be via Son Heung-min (£11.5m). When compared to every other midfielder in the last six matches no player has had more big chances than Son (six).

Other great midfield options

  • Crystal Palace’s Eberechi Eze (£5.6m) v Nottingham Forest.
  • Arsenal’s Martin Ødegaard (£6.8m) v Wolves.
  • Brighton’s Alexis Mac Allister (£5.6m) and Kaoru Mitoma (£5.7m) v Aston Villa.
  • Leicester’s James Maddison (£7.8m) v West Ham.
