The best captain for Gameweek 37

Last modified date

We find the best captain for Gameweek 37. With the help of the Fantasy Football Scout members area we can use the season ticker and underlying stats to find the best captaincy option for the Gameweek ahead.

Captaincy is one of the most important decisions a manager can make in fantasy football. Writing up a shortlist of options can be helpful but picking out the best captain for Gameweek 37 can be even more important for FPL managers.

Fixture ticker

Below you can see teams near the top with the easier fixtures, going all the way down the table to teams with the tougher fixtures. The season ticker can be very helpful. However, won’t always give us the full story on which players make the best captaincy options.

The options – Erling Haaland

Manchester City have a double Gameweek this week. The league leaders continue to impress with their free-scoring capabilities. This season amongst all teams they rank first for goals scored (92), third for attempts on goal (555), first for big chances total (126) and first for minutes per chance (six).

The league leaders face Chelsea and Brighton this week. The former have been in a torrid form this season. Switching between managers, Chelsea have also become a team to target. To reinforce that, they have conceded two or more goals inn five of their last six matches.

One player taking his first season by storm is Erling Halaand (£12.4m). The Norwegian has managed a brilliant 266 points in FPL so far. His huge total consists of 36 goals and seven assists. Haaland leads his sides relentless frontline whilst also taking penalties.

Riyad Mahrez

Manchester City have a great double Gameweek from an attacking point of view. Looking at their more recent offensive data, amongst all teams in the league they sit third best for goals (17), third for big chances (20) and third for shots on target (39).

Brighton also lay ahead for Manchester City. Although they are having a fantastic campaign sitting sixth in the league they have also been shipping some goals as of late. An example of this is that Brighton have conceded three or more goals in three of their last six matches.

Riyad Mahrez (£7.4m) may have been under-played in the Champions League but this only boosts his expected minutes in the Premier League. In fact, the Algerian has started the last four games in a row whilst also bagging a return in each and every one of those same matches.

Marcus Rashford

Manchester United sit top of the fixture ticker for the round ahead. This increases their appeal when it comes to considering their assets for captaincy. The Reds sit just inside the top four which highlights the season they have had.

One of the teams Manchester United face is Bournemouth. This season amongst all teams they rank second worst for goals conceded (69), the worst for shots in the box conceded (384) and the worst for shots on target conceded (193).

One of the best options in the Manchester United front line is Marcus Rashford (£7.2m). The winger has been taking part in full team training after returning from injury. Rashford has accumulated an impressive 16 goals and five assists already this campaign. This season amongst all players in the division he also ranks fourth best for attempts on goal (97) and fifth best for big chances for big chances total (31).

Bruno Fernandes

To emphasise the Manchester United attack even more it could be worth focusing on their data. Amongst all teams they sit within the best six for total attempts (534), shots in the box (328), big chances total (97) and shots on target (187).

The other team they face is Chelsea. We have already seen that the Blues have conceded two or more goals in five of their last six matches which makes them a team to target. However, to reinforce that point, the Blues have also managed to lose seven of their last 10 games in all competitons.

Bruno Fernandes (£9.5m) plays two poor defences in the round ahead. The Portuguese midfielder has collected six goals and eight assists this campaign, showing multiple routes to points. Fernandes also takes his sides penalties which boosts his appeal even more. If that wasn’t suffice, amongst all players in the league this season Fernandes also sits first for chances created (108) and second best for big chances created (32).

Who is the best captain for Gameweek 37?

Although Marcus Rashford is great option, his expected minutes are a huge concern this week as he has just returned form injury. Manchester City’s Riyad Mahrez is also a great captaincy option. However, when compared to the remaining two options, his potential routes to points are limited.

Bruno Fernandes is a fantastic captaincy option, he has multiple routes to points, takes penalties, takes set pieces and has sustained some fine distribution stats. Although that is the case, Erling Haaland is the best captaincy option for Gameweek 37. The Norwegian’s relentlessness, explosive potential, penalty taking duty and high ownership make him the standout option for the armband.
