The best wildcard team
Goalkeepers
Crystal Palace have made huge improvements under new manager Roy Hodgson and one of the things that has progressed is their underlying defensive data. They also face all three promoted teams in remaining Gameweeks so Sam Johnstone (£4.4m) could be a great option.
Backing up Johnstone is Chelsea’s Kepa Arrizabalaga (£4.6m). Chelsea may be defensively unstable but they also have a double Gameweek in 37. Although the double could be deemed as tough, Kepa could still rack up some serious save points.
Defenders
Newcastle have a good double Gameweek in the round ahead. Defensively, they have also been one of the best in the league this season, ranking the best for goals conceded (29), and second best for clean sheets kept (13). Whilst Kieran Trippier (£6.1m) has clean sheet potential, amongst defenders this season he also ranks first for successful crosses (124), first for chances created (101) and second for big chances created (22).
Like Newcastle, Manchester City have also maintained some fantastic defensive stats this campaign. Manchester City also have great fixtures including a double Gameweek. Because of this, his midfield position and threat from set plays, John Stones (£5.5m) could be a great option.
Brighton have five fixtures in the remaining three Gameweeks so investing in their assets is absolutely key moving forward. Pervis Estupinan (£4.9m) should be considered. The full-back ranks above all of his defensive teammates for non-penalty expected goal involvement this season (4.26).
The substitute bench houses two very cheap enabling assets that help to spread funds elsewhere within the side. Chelsea’s Wesley Fofana (£4.3m) and Manchester United’s Aaron Wan-Bissaka (£4.3m) also have a double Gameweek ahead whilst being nailed within their teams starting 11.
Midfielders
Brighton’s double Gameweek is an early indicator that investing in their attack could be a wise move. Offensively, this season Brighton rank amongst the best four teams for attempts (539), big chances total (103) and shots on target (198). Two players who should be considered include Kaoru Mitoma (5.6m) and Alexis Mac Allister (£5.5m).
Manchester City have sustained some of the best attacking data all season. Although it could be tough selecting a midfielder that could avoid rotation, Riyad Mahrez (£7.3m) may still enough game time to make a huge impact. The Algerian has picked up four assists and three goals in his last five matches in all competitions.
Liverpool continue to sweep aside their opponents in a bid to secure a top four position. The Reds are in a great run of scoring form as well and one player seems to be benefiting from that. Mohamed Salah (£13.1m) has picked up three double-digit hauls in his last six matches and faces a Leicester side who conceded five goals against Fulham in the most recent round.
Manchester United may be suffering after a small dip in form but they have a double Gameweek ahead which means investing in them could be key. The standout option in the frontline is of course Marcus Rashford (£7.3m who has picked up a cool 16 goals and five assist this campaign.
Forwards
Newcastle’s double Gameweek make their assets even more appealing but it’s their attacking form that has boosted the appeal of their strikers. In the last six Gameweeks Newcastle rank third for goals scored (15). One of the biggest contributors towards that total is Callum Wilson (£7.1m). The Englishman has managed two double-digit hauls in his last three games. His teammate should also be considered. Alexander Isak (£7m), although not as explosive as his partner, has a better expected minutes moving forward. Isak has bagged a return in half of his last six matches.
Manchester City’s Erling Haaland (£12.4m) could be considered as an absolute essential moving forward. The Norwegian edges every other player in the league for goals scored, big chances, ownership, FPL points, double-digit hauls and a lot more. Do not go without him.
