The best captain for Gameweek 30

Last modified date

We find the best captain for Gameweek 30. With the help of the Fantasy Football Scout members area we can use the season ticker and underlying stats to find the best captaincy option for the Gameweek ahead.

Captaincy is one of the most important decisions a manager can make in fantasy football. Writing up a shortlist of options can be helpful but picking out the best captain for Gameweek 30 can be even more important for FPL managers.

Fixture ticker

Below you can see teams near the top with the easier fixtures, going all the way down the table to teams with the tougher fixtures. The season ticker can be very helpful. However, won’t always give us the full story on which players make the best captaincy options.

The options – Ollie Watkins

Aston Villa sit second on the fixture ticker this week. In the last six Gameweeks amongst all teams in the league they rank second best for goals scored (13) and in the best six teams for big chances total (16) and shots on target (31).

Nottingham Forest lay ahead for Aston Villa. In the same last six-match period as above Nottingham Forest rank the worst team for goals conceded (15), third worst for shots in the box conceded (72) and joint second worst for big chances conceded (18).

Penalty taker and focal point to the attack Ollie Watkins (£7.5m) has been in fantastic recent form. In fact, Watkins has a jaw dropping nine returns in his last 10 matches. Amongst all strikers in the last six he also ranks joint first for goals (five), joint third for attempts on goal (19), joint second for shots in the box (17) and first for big chances total (10).

Marcus Rashford

Manchester United rank third on the fixture ticker this week. This season the Reds sit with the best eight teams in the league for goals scored (42), attempts on goal (390), shots in the box (71), big chances total (71) and shots on target (138).

They face Everton in Gameweek 30. The Toffees have been struggling this season. Amongst all teams in the league they rank second worst for shots conceded in the box (302), third worst for total attempts conceded (432) and fourth worst for shots on target conceded (138).

Marcus Rashford (£7.3m) sits as the fourth highest scoring player in FPL this season. Since the restart in Gameweek 17 no player has scored more goals than Rashford (11). In that same period he also ranks third for attempts on goal (40) and joint second for big chances total (14).

Erling Haaland

Manchester City sit fourth on the fixture ticker this week. Amongst all teams in the league this season they rank first for first for goals scored (71), first for goals scored in the box (39), first for big chances total (101) and first for shots on target (159).

They play against strugglers Southampton in the round ahead. The Saints rank around mid-table for a lot of the key defensive data points. However, they also rank the fifth worst team in the league for goals conceded (47).

Erling Haland (£12m) is the highest scoring and highest owned player in the game. This season amongst all players in the league he ranks first for goals (28), first for goals scored in the box (27), first for shots in the box (84) and first for big chances total (43).

Bukayo Saka

Arsenal sit top of the league but near the bottom of the fixture ticker in the round ahead. However, in the last six Gameweeks they rank first for goals (23), first for total attempts on goal (119), first for shots on the box (79), first for big chances total (23) and second for shots on target (38).

Liverpool lay ahead for Arsenal this week. Their opponents have been unable to maintain consistency this season. They also rank as the worst team in the league in the last six matches for big chances conceded (19).

Penalty taker Bukayo Saka (£8.6m) ranks as the third highest scoring player in FPL this campaign. In the last six amongst all players Saka also ranks joint third for goals scored (four) and showed his explosiveness in one of his most recent matches with an 18-point haul.

Who is the best captain for Gameweek 30?

All four players could be deemed as great captaincy selections. However, the best captain for Gameweek 30 is Erling Haaland. Manchester City dominate most of the key offensive data points this season. This shows reliability for captaincy. Haaland also dominates most of the key offensive data points amongst all players, takes penalties, is the focal point to the attack and is the most explosive player in the game.

It could be worth monitoring the Manchester City press conference this week for confirmation he could start after recently returning to training following his injury.
