The best midfielders since the restart

Last modified date

With the international break upon us, we look back and take a deep dive into the stats of the best midfielders since the restart. With the help of the Fantasy Football Scout members area, we can find some of the top picks in midfield moving forward.

An important part of the season is approaching. With impending blank and double Gameweeks it could be vital to find the best midfielders since the restart, and if the fixtures are good, we can target them for the latter stages of the campaign.

Fixtures

Below we can see teams in order of fixture difficulty from now until the end of the season. The teams at the top have the easiest fixtures whilst the teams at the bottom have the toughest fixtures. There is a scheduled double Gameweek in 29, a blank Gameweek in 32.

What the fixture ticker does not show is that there is highly likely to be a big double Gameweek in 34 and 37. The teams that are likely to double in both of those Gameweeks include Brighton, Manchester City and Manchester United.

Non-penalty expected goal involvement comparison

Non-penalty expected goal involvement measures both expected goals and expected assists combined. Below we can see the best 14 midfielders in the game since the restart.

Mohamad Salah

Liverpool midfielder Mohamed Salah (£12.8m) tops every midfielder in the game for non-penalty expected goal involvement (7.51). Although Salah sits eighth for expected assists (2.51) he ranks second for expected goals (5.79).

The Egyptian has bagged five goals and four assists since the restart meaning he has been involved in nine goals. Salah ranks third on the fixture ticker with a double Gameweek in 29 and a nice fixture in blank Gameweek 32 against Nottingham Forest.

Liverpool are also likely to have a double Gameweek in 34 against Tottenham and Fulham. The fixtures and the stats are great for Salah so many within the community could be looking for a way to bring him back into their teams.

Martin Odegaard

Arsenal midfielder Martin Odegaard (£6.9m) ranks second amongst all midfielders for non-penalty expected goal involvement since the restart (7.40). The Norwegian ranks third for expected assists (3.39) and seventh for expected goals (4.01).

Since the restart Odegaard has picked up four assists and four goals. This means that he has contributed to eight goals. Arsenal rank third from bottom on the fixture ticker with no blank or double Gameweeks scheduled. Because of this, although his stats are fantastic, Odegaard could well be a sell moving forward.

Marcus Rashford

Manchester United midfielder Marcus Rashford (£7.3m) ranks third amongst midfielders for non-penalty expected goal involvement since the restart. Although he fails to rank inside the top 20 midfielders for expected assists (0.81), he ranks first for expected goals (6.39).

Since the restart Rashford has banked just one assist but a huge 10 goals. Manchester United have a double Gameweek in 29, blank in 32 but then have two more double Gameweeks, likely to be in Gameweek 34 and 37. Because of this Marcus Rashford could be an absolute must going forward

Bruno Fernandes

Staying with the Manchester United midfield, Bruno Fernandes (£9.6m) also features. The Portuguese international has racked up 6.23 non-penalty expected goal involvement since the restart. He ranks second for expected assists (3.72) and 10th for expected goals (3.30).

Since the restart Fernandes has collected five assists and three goals totalling eight goal contributions. Similar to his teammate Marcus Rashford, Fernandes has the potential to double in three more Gameweeks this season and so could be a brilliant option looking ahead.

Solly March

Brighton midfielder Solly March (£5.1m) ranks 10th amongst all midfielders for non-penalty expected goal involvement since the restart (5.75). He ranks sixth for expected assists (2.79) and 14th for expected goals (2.96).

Since the restart March has managed two assists and seven goals tallying to nine goal contributions. Brighton have a great double Gameweek in 29, blank in Gameweek 32 but then have the potential to double in Gameweek 34 and 37. This could indicate March is a great option for the run ahead.
