Best midfielders to buy for Gameweek 28 and 29

Last modified date

Looking into some of the best midfielders to buy for Gameweek 28 and 29. Using the Fantasy Football Scout member, we can utilise its fixture ticker and underlying stats to find some of the best midfielders who play in the blank and double Gameweek ahead.

Fixtures

Miguel Almiron

Newcastle rank fourth on the fixture ticker for the next two Gameweeks. They face Nottingham Forest in Gameweek 28 who rank amongst the four worst teams in the league in the last six Gameweeks for shots in the box conceded (20), shots on target conceded (28) and big chances conceded (16). They then go onto to play Manchester United and West Ham who have both shown defensive inconsistencies as of late.

One player who could take advantage of his opponents is Miguel Almiron (£5.4m). Amongst all midfielders in the league this season so far he ranks joint third for goals (11) and joint fourth for big chances total (11).

James Maddison

Leicester face Brentford in Gameweek 28 and then Aston Villa and Crystal Palace in Gameweek 29. This means they have three fixtures in the next two Gameweeks. Their opponents have been conceding some concerning defensive stats. For example Aston Villa have conceded more big chances than any other team in the last six Gameweeks (20).

One midfielder many could back is James Maddison (£8.1m). The attacker has already picked up an impressive nine goals and five assists in 19 games this season. Not only that but the maestro also loves to shoot from outside the box and no team has scored more goals than Leicester from outside the box this season (11).

Arsenal

Arsenal may rank further down the fixture ticker for the next two Gameweeks but that is simply down to having one less fixture than others. They face Crystal Palace in Gameweek 28 and Leeds in Gameweek 29. In the last six matches Arsenal rank first for goals scored (17), first for attempts on goal (139), first for shots in the box (90) and joint first for shots on target (38).

The stats above suggest that even though they have fewer fixtures than other teams their attacking assets are still some of the best to target. One of them is Bukayo Saka (£8.5m) who has had more attempts on goal (27) than any other player in the league in the last six Gameweeks whilst also taking his team’s penalties.

Other options include Brazilian Gabriel Martinelli (£6.6m) who has managed four returns in his last five matches. Another option is Martin Odegaard (£6.9m) who ranks second amongst all players in the last six Gameweeks for attempts on goal (25).

Brighton

Brighton do not have a fixture in Gameweek 28 but they do face a double in Gameweek 29. In the last six Gameweeks they rank first for minutes per chance (5.1 minutes), third for big chances total (21) and amongst the best five teams for attempts on goal (93) and shots on target (32).

Maintaining some fantastic offensive stats this season and facing Brentford and Bournemouth in Gameweek 29 is too hard to ignore. Their best attacking options include Alexi Mac Allister (£5.5m) who has taken up a new advanced role and takes penalties.

Other options include Kaoru Mitoma (£5.5m). The Japanese attacker has bagged three double-digit hauls in half of his last six games. Another option could be Solly March (£5.1m) who has collected four double-digit returns in his last 10 matches.

Marcus Rashford

Manchester United do not have a fixture in Gameweek 28 but do have a double Gameweek in 29 against Newcastle and Brentford. In the last six Gamesweeks Manchester United rank amongst the best four teams for goals scored (nine), attempts on goal (93) and shots in the box (65).

Marcus Rashford (£7.4m) is the standout attacker in the side. This season the midfielder has hit a huge 14 goals and three assists in 26 games. In the last six Gameweeks amongst all players in the league he ranks first for goals (five), joint third for attempts on goal (20), joint second for shots in the box (17) and joint second for big chances total (seven).
